Re: Bed Rest Check-In 4/25/15

  • 25w6d - nothing new to report.  OB check-up this week went fine.  Next MFM appointment for growth check is 5/6.  Just hoping all stays quiet.

QOTD:  Before all of my problems, we had some things planned and events to attend this spring.  And it's been difficult to get around with the limited walking I am allowed to do (and I am thankful for that little bit I am allowed!).  So we purchased an inexpensive transport wheelchair online and DH is able to push me around in that so I can at least do some things with the family and not be completely housebound.

  • Big news for the week is that we have scheduled a c-section for 5/7/15 at 36w1d - that is if baby girl continues to tolerate her low fluid until then and my platelets stay above 90,000-100,000 (at 125,000 now). That's 12 days and counting - which will put me in the hospital for a total of 6w 4d prior to my c-section.

    QOTD: What have you
changed or modified to make bed rest work for you?
Well my husband and I bought a house and are moving during my hospitalization - aka I will be going home to a different house in a different city compared to the home I left. So my original idea of picking out a house with my DH and moving us has been drastically altered. I will be moving into a house I have never seen in person. Luckily i trust my DH.

  • I'm officially full term now! Yippee, we made it!! I would be anxious to have him now if it weren't for one little hiccup we learned at my prenatal appointment on Friday... the little stinker managed to flip himself from head down to breech since my last appointment. I am scheduled for an external cephalic version on Thursday to try to flip him back, which apparently has about a 60% success rate. In the meantime I'm trying some other measures including going to a chiropractor certified in the Webster technique tomorrow, an acupuncturist for moxibustion on Tuesday, and I've been doing techniques from Spinning Babies several times a day since my appointment. I'm still holding out hope for a vaginal birth but in the end all I really want is a healthy baby.

QOTD: Man, so much had to change when I went on bed rest. I had to quit working a month early and quickly refer all my clients out to other therapists, adjust childcare for my toddler including my MIL watching her once/week and DH adjusting his work schedule to do daycare pick up and drop off three days/week, send our puppy to doggie daycare 3 days/week since we don't have a fenced yard and I can't walk her (DH comes home at lunch the other days), I order groceries online and have them delivered, I meal plan very easy meals and MIL brings dinner one day/week, we hired a house cleaning service, friends have come over to visit me a couple times so I'm not as isolated, I'm in bed on my laptop a lot, I've read a couple books including a Hypnobirthing refresher, and maybe the biggest adjustment was in my attitude to let things go, let go of control, and be okay with not everything getting done that I want to.

@lawmom747 - getting a wheelchair temporarily crossed my mind but I never did it. That is so great! Now you can participate in your life more instead of just watching it go by from the sidelines.

@knwilliams01 - holy crap, you will be moving into a new house sight unseen after baby arrives. That is so brave.

  • @knwilliams01 - that is really, really brave - I am such a control freak it would have been tough for me to let DH move everything to the new house, etc.  FX that your little girl hangs in there until c-section day.

@supersarah77 - congrats on full term and I am with you about the attitude adjustment needed - to let things go as they are out of my control.  In my world this includes housecleaning, laundry, etc that is not quite up to my Type A requirements.

Speaking of letting go of things...my OB seriously stressed me out by scheduling my c-section for 39+3.  I only made it to 38 weeks with DD and she was born weighing 9 lbs, 2 oz.  So the odds of me making it c-section day with twins are very slim.  I talked about this on another board and apparently doctors can't schedule before 39 weeks without medical reason, etc.  Of course the OB also said that if there is a problem you need to be ready to go in for c-section at any given appointment - especially if MFM recommends it.  We don't have family close by so it's frustrating to know that odds are I will a) go into labor or b) be kept at the hospital suddenly following a MFM appointment - which will make it difficult for DH to be with me when the babies arrive and juggle care for DD at the same time.

  • @lawmom747 That is really stressful - I totally understand the feeling. Since being admitted at 29w5d we have been told we were going to c section in the next 24 hours THREE different times. Obviously, I am still pregnant so we see how that played out. Just knowing that any day could be the day is difficult! Hang in there - those babies will come on their schedule :)
  • @knwilliams01 - I would have lost my mind by now. Three times? Argh.
