Labor Cookies

Yeah, you read that right: Labor Cookies. Anybody ever heard of them or tried them? What was your experience, if so?
Supposedly these cookies, containing ingredients such as cayenne, cloves and ginger, are supposed to jumpstart labor. Although we all want to keep our LOs cooking a little longer, chances are some of us are going to be begging to get these LOs out of us once they've reached term.
Anyone else heard of some nutty recipes to induce labor that have been swirling around? Our time will be coming soon and I want to be equipped with as many options as possible!

For those who are as curious as I was, here's the Labor Cookie recipe (any a yummy pic attached):

2 1/2 c. flour
1 1/2 t. baking soda
3/4 t. cinnamon
1 t. ground ginger
1/2 t. ground cloves
1/2 t. salt
1/2 t. cayenne pepper
8 T. butter
1/2 c. sugar
1 c. brown sugar
1/3 c. molasses
1/4 c. egg whites

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine flour, baking soda and spices and set aside. Cream the butter and sugars together. Add the molasses to the creamed butter, then add the egg whites until combined. Addd the dry ingredients slowly. Once incorporated, roll dough into 1 inch balls and place onto baking tray. Bake 8-10 minutes. Once cool eat as many as you can possibly stomach, lay down for a nap and wait for labor to begin!

Re: Labor Cookies

  • Never heard of labor cookies but I did acupuncture and went into labor the next day. My acupuncturist said every pregnant women he's worked on went into labor within 24 hours. It probably helped that I was 2+ cm dilated when I went in. It can't hurt.

I get acupuncture frequently. I did pre pregnancy as well and I think that helped me to get pregnant quickly. Anyways, I mentioned last time my lower back has been bothering me. She said there's nothing she could do now, but once it's go time she can hit those points. I'm hoping it could get labor going. This was interesting to read!

I read about these cookies in either the March or April board. Mixed reviews on actual starting labor, I feel like, but everybody who said they tried then said they were good.

Good to know about the castor oil @klkonwi

Anybody hear about red raspberry leaf tea priming your body for effective contractions? I've seen that on other bmb too. From what I saw when I googled it just makes you potentially contract, so basically, it gives you braxton hicks. And its red raspberry LEAF tea, not the fruit tea (which is yummy)

My yoga instructor (she's also a doula) recommended to drink raspberry leaf tea starting at 32 weeks because it has to build in your system. It's not supposed to start labor but it's supposed to make labor faster. I drank my first cup last night & plan to try it every night. I'm a tea person so I won't be too disappointed if it doesn't work, but we'll see!

  • Lactation cookies are actually pretty helpful if you think your milk supply is low. The things in it help the production of milk

  • Looks like another great reason to eat cookies and drink tea!

I did this ....I was induced and my labor was 3 hours start to finish. By far the quickest /easiest labor out of them all.
  • @taboullio84 you did the tea? Or the others ?

My midwife has us take red raspberry leaf tea. I've actually been drinking it off and on since 2nd trimester and now drinking it daily.

I drank it last time and swore it helped (probably totally in my head but I don't care!)... It tasted good and I felt like I was in control of when my labor would start which gave me a bit of a self esteem boost ;)

On a sort of related note the earth mama heartburn pregnancy tea was helpful this morning in relieving my worst heartburn yet!
