fluid in the back of neck

I am 25 years old and had my blood work which came back negative for Down Syndrome and other typical chromosomal abnormalities. But when I got my 12 week ultrasound they say the fluid behind the head is measuring at 5-6mm and should be less than 3.5mm. Now they are making me run extra test and see a geneticist. Anyone else have anything like this?

I have my nuchal translucency scan on Monday (that's what they call the fluid behind the neck).

Since you're young & the bloodwork came back fine, more than likely your LO is perfectly okay. An increased amount of fluid doesn't necessarily mean anything is wrong. The number is just used to assess your baby's risk for certain problems.

I just had my 12 week ultrasound on Friday and they found a cystic hygroma (fluid on the back of the neck). This is an indicator of genetic or chromosomal abnormalities. I had a cvs done and will have the results in a few days. But if your blood work came back fine, it may just be a waiting game to see if it goes down. Good luck to you!

Keep us posted. Due to multiple miscarriages I am having these tests done as well... I'm so nervous! We have the Nuchal Translucency test and ultrasound done Monday, May 4th.
