Laying him down in his crib. He goes to sleep on his own at bedtime and some naps (with a paci sometimes). I discovered this after I had gone through the checklist of things and he just wouldn't fall asleep with me nursing, holding, bouncing, singing, etc. He likes his own space some of the time.
Leaving her alone in her crib. Yes, she'll cry at times, but that's the sign she needs to be left alone. Picking her up to comfort her, will calm her down, but also keeps her awake. After nursing, she's awake for half an hour. Then she starts to struggle and I bring her to her crib. It's quiet and dark, so it takes max 15 minutes to get her to sleep like an angel. Before, she cries verry loud, but if I got tempted to pick her up, she needs to start crying again to calm down. I wish I knew this when my eldest was a baby.
Swaddle, white noise, feeding and she's out! If she's not out I just lay her down anyway and she's out in a few minutes. She also passes out easily in her car seat!
Rice cereal. Although some people disagree with an infant having it so soon our pediatrician started him on it because of his acid reflux. He sleeps 5-6 hours at a clip now!! A full belly definitely puts him to sleep!
Merlins Magic sleep suit! It really does work, we started putting our daughter in it once she was 12 pounds and she immediately started sleeping 5-6 hours straight. Now she's still sleeping in the suit and sleeps about 8 hours straight.
