Not eating formula anymore....HELP!

Hello mommies!

I'm really at a loss lately, as I do not know what to do anymore for my little one.  He's nearing 8 months and for the past 10 days or so, he's been having a lot of trouble drinking formula.  I give him Enfamil A+ (it's what he's been always taking since day 0!).  He's started on solids already, and after meals he would still take about 200ml of formula with no problem.  A week ago he's had a throat infection (which later was diagnosed as a virus, and the doctor didn't give us more specifications as to what it might be but he said maybe mono.) EVERY bottle is an issue.  If he eats 100ml in a feeding, it's a miracle.  He used to eat about 800ml-1L per day, in addition to the solid meals, and now it's down to 400-500.  His throat doesn't hurt (we gave Tylenol a few times and it made no difference in feedings), I tried three different bottles just in case he stopped liking his, but no success.  He's hungry though, because he eats breakfast and lunch with no issues, plus a fruit snack.  I've been reading threads online about other mommies having this issue, but no one suggested anything, so I am wondering if there's something I could try. I tried adding a hint of vanilla to the formula - also didn't make a change.  I'm worried as he's most likely not getting all nutriments from just the food, and he might lose weight.  Any help would really be appreciated!  Thank you! :)

  • You should be offering food only AFTER a regular bottle/ nursing session. His main source of nutrition should still be formula / breast milk.

  • Try offering the bottle before solids. Formula is their main source of nutrition and solids before one is really just to teach them to eat and learn new flavors. If this keeps happening call you dr because they may have a solution for you also. Also some kids just refuse formula before one. Happened to one of my friends. He was 10months and her dr just said go to cows milk. Just ask your dr. They will be able to tell you more

  • Teething could be happening too. I know my daughter has been drinking a lot less because I think her mouth hurts from teeth coming in. Also, my doc said its normal for babies to drink less when they are eating solids :) I would contact your doc for help as well :)
