Trying to Get Pregnant

Egg white?

I've been reading a lot about this, and I have some real questions. Has anyone here tried using actual egg whites as a lubricant? I know "TCOYF" mentions that it can boost fertility by acting like EWCM, but book doesn't really go into detail about it. So I'm wondering:

How do I get the egg white in there? Turkey baster? I can do that.

When am I supposed to put it in there? Right before sex, right? Maybe a bit of an awkward mood killer, but it's worth a try.

Am I supposed to use a new egg each day before/ during ovulation, or just one egg per cycle?

I'm on the second day of my period, so I've got a little time before I need to decide whether I actually want to try this. But I figure it can't hurt to talk to someone who's done it, or at least hear some opinions. What do you guys think?

If you've never experienced having egg white cervical mucus you probably should make sure you stay hidrated that should help... I wouldn't use actual egg whites.. They carry bacteria that could be harmful to you.

  • Wow. Just. Wow.
  • It isn't "MUD," actually. I was actually curious if anyone had tried this.

But never mind. Remind me not to come here with questions.

    A turkey baster?

  • What about any of these sounds sanitary to you? Also, if this was some effective method, don't you think everyone would be doing it?

Your cervix will produce a secretion that is very similar to raw egg whites but the two are not the same.

If you need lube, use pre-seed. But pre-seed itself will not get you pregnant. Well timed sex will.

  • I know I was just thrown off by the obnoxiousness of the idea and thought you were messing with us. Hopefully no one else gets fooled by that website. But I (and I'm sure everyone else on this site) would advise you NOT TO DO THIS!!

Your body naturally produces egg-white-like cervical mucous (EWCM) when you are most fertile. There are ways to check for that (Google my beautiful cervix or Fertility Friend tutorials). If you don't find it naturally that means it either isn't your fertile window or you need help producing it. If it's the latter try hydrating with water or using approved products (like Pre-Seed as suggested). Good luck.
  • Like @missteacherlady16 mentioned, there is a lubricant called pre-seed that is safe to use and it mimics your EWCM. It doesn't kill sperm and was recommended by my fertility doctor. It helps by giving a medium for the sperm to swim in. When I purchased mine, it come with some applicators that you can fill and insert it up into the vagina. I have not tried that but they are there if you want to. I have not had to use it but wanted to have it in case it was needed. I think this would be a safer product than using egg whites. It's 25-30$. If you do not have the EWCM, I would use this product and hydrate like PP said. Hopefully you will begin to produce your own and not need any lubricants. Good luck!

  • I've read about using plain yogurt as a lubricant too, but I definitely won't be putting any in MY vagina!

To defend the OP here, she absolutely talks about this as a serious method in TCOYF. Specifically in the chapter 'Practical Tips Beyond Fertility Awareness.' She says that egg whites are compatible with sperm viability because they are both made of protein.

I myself have not tried this yet, but I would imagine either a turkey baster or some other applicator similar to what they sell with preseed would be necessary to deliver the egg white near your cervix. Obviously, as with anything that you use in or near your vagina, I would make sure to clean any applicator. I would also make sure and use a pasteurized egg to decrease the chance of salmonella (which she also mentions as a risk in the book).

As for how many eggs, there's a lot of egg white from one egg but you'd have to figure out how to store it safely in between uses. But I don't think it matters if you use a new egg either time either. Just make sure it's pasteurized.

  • I did read that part of the book, so yes it is a valid question. I think going the pre-seed route and trying to remain hydrated is a better option though :)

    Gross. Salmonella vag.

    I recommend buying Pre-Seed.
  • My OBGYN suggested the plain yogurt in the vag when I had BV. I fought through 3 rounds of antibiotics (oral and vag) that did not clear it up. I did this for 5 days at night and it cleared it up. It seems gross and was messy but it worked. Some of these "old remedies" do work!

I do agree with you, however, I think that situation is very different.  BV is bacterial (obviously, it's in the name) and yogurt has a lot of good bacteria in it.  I believe you can eat yogurt to help prevent BV, as well.

  • Validated or not, this sounds like a terrible idea! X_X
  • OMG NO! Just no. Infections galore! If you are not producing your own EWCM, go to a doctor and see about actual medical treatments instead of doing something that could be potentially harmful to your health.
  • if you don't want to use preseed try coconut oil.

Coconut oil is actually a lot more pleasant.

"A variety of foundations made using boiled egg white, talc, and other white materials as a base. Egg white, uncooked, could also be used to "glaze" the complexion, creating a smooth shell and helping to hide wrinkles."

But Queen Liz #1 used egg white on her face! :P technically your vag could obtain the same? I'm kidding of course but I LOL'd. Don't judge me!
