Pregnant after IF

Pregnant after 7 years of Infertility, Age 40 (almost 41)

I just want to share my happy success story to encourage/inspire any woman (couple) struggling with infertility.

My husband and I started trying to get pregnant in 2007 - when we were both 33 years old. For about 5 years, life was heartbreaking, frustrating and simply sad as we were unsuccessful, month after month, year after year. About two years ago, we gave up and decided that it simply was not meant to be. We moved on with our lives, saddened but forced to accept it.

Last summer, we moved across the country to a new state (back "home" where we both grew up). In January 2015, I was shocked to discover that I was pregnant! I'm now 5 months pregnant and going strong! Baby is due in August.

The only thing I did differently was I started acupuncture treatments in October 2014. I got pregnant in November.

I never thought it would happen to us! My husband turned 41 this past December and I'll be 41 in June. We will both be first time parents!

  • Congratulations!  You'll find most ladies on here needed fertility treatment to get pregnant, often due to a specific diagnosis.  But it definitely sounds like after 7 years you finally have your miracle baby.  Hope you have a happy and healthy 20 more weeks.

Congrats! We also started TTC in 2007 and gave up in 2012. I have low progesterone, short LP, 6 losses (5 chemical or very early and 1 at 11 weeks 2 days). I had always planned to hang it up at 32 because of the increased medical risk, ended up hanging it up a little early since the last m/c was just before my 32nd birthday. 3 years went, no pregnancies that I know of, though I won't test until my second missed period because I'd rather not have to experience every chemical. Worked through all the feelings of loss and was at the point where I was totally fine with it just being us for the next few decades. I could even calmly tell people who asked the truth about why we don't have children without getting upset then or later. Then straight out of nowhere I realized I'd missed my period February and March and tested on March 13th to find out I was 9 weeks pregnant. My feelings are a little more mixed than yours since I'd made the decision to stop trying and changed numerous things in my life with the understanding that children were not a possibility for us, but now that I'm 16 weeks and I don't feel like miscarriage is looming over me every single day, I'm trying to enjoy the positive and come to terms with the difficulties and poor timing. We're due October 18th.
