Best baby thermometer

i hear the ones on the pacifier are more work than it's worth. What is everyone's favorite or easiest to use thermometer for newborns/babies

Re: Best baby thermometer

  • I always used a regular thermometer in the armpit. I'm interested to know what others say.

  • Behind the ear one... It's perfect and you can easily take their temperature even while they are sleeping.

Is it like the forehead one?
  • FTM so I'm also interested to hear what people say
A behind the ear one, @ElRuby? How does that work? You just place it against the skin? I'd think you would have to have another part of flesh against it like with laurendutch and the armpit? Genuinely curious. Glad to Google it if you remember the name of yours

No... From what I have seen it's much easier than the forehead scanner... You just place the sensor behind the ear and press a button and it's very quick and accurate.
  • Behind the ear for sure. My daughter has always fought our forehead scanner. I think our behind the eat thermometer was under $20 at walmart, and our forehead one was over $40.
  • The best and most accurate thermometer/temperature is going to be rectal. The armpit in the least accurate.
  • Oh and the tympanic (ear) is not accurate on any baby less than 3 months because their ear canals are too small. We never use them on babies, especially if they come in for an illness, not an injury.
  • @mellymar I can't remember the brand but I know it's really nice not to have to wake DS when I want to check on him in the middle of the night... Of course a rectal thermometer is a must have but I didn't find it necessary to always use that one especially as the child gets older!
  • I'm not opposed to sticking a thermometer up the bum (I did it with animals every day for a long while there, fun times). I was just hoping to not have to stick stuff up my kids bum. Oh well

I feel the same, I have to do it all day and then come home and do it lol. I know my husband will pull the "but you're the medical professional."
  • If your baby is running a fever the pediatrician a office will ask for a rectal reading (at least mine did) for the first six months.

  • We have used a rectal thermometer almost exclusively. It's been the easiest and most accurate for us.

  • Yep. Pediatrician and ER will always want to know the rectal reading you got at home before bringing baby in.
