Re: Deli meats?!!

  • ...I stay far away from cold deli meat. Just not worth it to me. I have been craving cold deli sandwiches but the toasted ones just are not he same. :| can't wait to reward myself with one! It will taste amazing!!!! Less than 9 weeks left!

  • I am a vegetarian so I didn't read this thread when it started but then I got a craving for a cold, smoked turkey sandwich... Ate 3 of them in three days and then thankfully the craving stopped. Lol, I think the smoke isn't good for you even when you aren't pregnant but seriously I think I (and probably all other moms) have bigger battles. :-)
  • I have been dying for a sandwich from a little shop in my hometown that iis in the back of a liquor store so I figure on the safety list that's a no-no, but there is a sandwich delivery plan in place for after the birth. I have been good about not eating deli meat, but it's hard! What helps me is lettuce and tomato sandwiches. Just make a turkey sandwich like you normally would, but without the turkey. It isn't perfect, but it helps cut the craving.

  • I have eaten it I just heat it up before consumption but I didn't even know about this with my oldest and I ate whatever...

  • I love subs but have not eaten any since I'm pregnant. Last night I stayed at the hospital and they brought me a turkey sandwich for dinner, I asked if I could it eat since I'm obviously pregnant and I thought I can't eat deli meat but the nurse said I can eat it every once in a while. Just not excessively. So I did
  • I cannot wait to eat Jimmy Johns again. I have a gift card to there with a post it that has my order written out so that DH can go make a run after delivery
  • I've eating deli meats cold without heating it up and I'm just fine. I don't eat it all the time and when i did eat it, it was sooooo good lol

  • I have a fresh, all natural turkey sandwich on whole wheat with avacado chips and strawberries almost every day for lunch. I buy from a grocery store that I have been eating from since before i was preggo and they're super clean and a great store. I would be a little iffy buying from places i was not too familiar with, but just use common sense. I think you're probably more likely to get it from poorly washed veggies. And btw; moderation means nothing when it comes to Listeria. If you have one sandwich one time or if it you eat 5 a week. If it is contaminated, then it only takes once. Not something like caffeine where moderation actually counts for something. But in the end, I say eat the damn sandwich...

I had Jimmy Johns last night.  It was SO good.
  • I usually heat mine up first but every once in a while I really want a cold sandwhich and go for it. Plus I have been craving salami and cream cheese roll ups! I would just stay away from cold packaged meats.
  • Lol I just had this happen to me a few days ago! Hubby was in a hurry making our lunch and forgot to heat up my lunch meat. I ate it for lunch because I didn't have time to go home for a new lunch/money to buy something.

I think I'll be ok. My baby boy is 4lbs and measuring 2-3 weeks ahead, so I'm pretty confident this slip will be ok.

  • I eat deli meat once a week for 3 straight pregnancies, hot dogs, soft cheese. I even eat raw sushi. No problems in 3 pregnancies.

  • Very very small chance of getting listeria. I usually ask the deli to slice my meats fresh. Enjoy that Turkey!!
