Sleep regression

My 16 week old sleeps well for naps during the day, sleeps from 8-12:30 at night, and then it all goes to hell. Screamy crying everytime I put him down in the crib after rocking him, then IF he falls asleep is gor 10-20 minutes and then it starts all over again. I've tried not picking him up but the screaming just gets worse. Someone help!!!

Re: Sleep regression

  • Same here. LO was sleeping 9-4 going right back to sleep after feeding until 8 or even 9 and taking cat naps during the day plus an awesome 12-2 nap. Now for the past 3days/nights he just can't seem to sleep.

Last night was the worst yet. He slept from 9-11 was up until 3 then back up at 4 fell back asleep at 6 then up at 730. No amount of rocking or cuddling could appease him. He was just beside himself and couldn't get to sleep. Now today he is exhausted.

No gas, eating fine. I'm thinking teeth or growing pains. Poor kid. You are not alone!!

  • We keep having on again off again days. Nights are different but not so bad as I've gotten used to them. For me now it's nap times. He will not go down and every time it's a battle. Today he's only slept for 30 minutes total. I've tried everything. Finally put him in his baby carrier and started rocking him and he's fallen asleep. Just afraid moving him will wake him ._.
  • My LO is 16 weeks and we just started this too sleeps like an angel from 8p-12ish then was up literally every hour from 1am-7am!! where before was sleeping from 8-12 feed right back to sleep and up at 7:00ish for the day. However I also recently started to no longer swaddle her at night anymore as is recommended when they reach certain milestones so I recently bought baby Merlins Magic sleepsuit which is a swaddle transition suit if they are not yet rolling over in the crib and we have sleep again!! Back to 8-12 wake up feed and sleep from then to 7am. Don't know if it's appropriate for you but thought I would share.
  • Unfortunately my LO never swaddled well and he's already turning in the crib. He does circles and just recently started rolling to his tummy so I can't do anything like that. I think maybe it's because he just started rolling over that he's waking so early ._. But he's 19 weeks now and we've been at this since around 3 months in different waves :( I thought about setting bedtime earlier but he already goes down between 530-7 depending on the day and his napping. So I'm not sure if it would even help ._.
  • My guy was doing 8 pm - 6 am with no night Feedings. For the past week and a half he's been up around 6-8 times per night. I was so over it that we've just started taking him into bed w us around 2 am. Only way to get sleep. Now had 4 month shots today. Hoping it's not even worse :-/
  • My son has been on cereal for a while at night and about the past month and a half in every bottle he sleeps all night with the cereal from about 9 pm to 7 or 8 am but he hates naps you could try asking a dr. About cereal
  • Try googling the 4 month Wakefuls. I remeber when I went through this with DS#1......it lasted 2 months and was terrible. Hang in there.

  • We've been hit HARD by sleep regression this week. I went to the doctor today to make sure there was nothing else going on. She says around 6 months (often slightly sooner) babies start remembering how much they love being held when they awake and will cry until they are held again. She recommends a modified Ferber method at this age, but I'm not sure I'm ready for that. It's simply, let him cry for 5 mins, then soothe, then 10 mins, then soothe, then 20 mins, then soothe, etc. I'm not entirely convinced that's what I want to do but will have to do more research. She does not recommend doing this naps.
