Anyone deliver with having arthritis in the hips?

Also posted on my bmb.

Looking for some potential insight as this is not a common problem for people of my age group (early to mid 20s). I have osteoarthritis in many of my joints, but my biggest worry is both of my hips. I was diagnosed via full body bone scan at 20 years old.

As there is such a variety of different ages here on this group, I was hoping maybe someone had any experience or maybe knew someone with experience.

I'm planning on a medication free delivery and I am trying to prepare myself mentally for any worse of pain should my arthritis give me issues.

I will also take into consideration advice of others who have hip problems that cause chronic pain, even if it's not arthritis.

So things I am particularly interested in knowing if possible:

1. What positions for labour helped best with any potential stiffness or aching during delivery?

2. Did you find it made labour worse or impacted it at all?

3. Any natural pain relief that worked for you if your hips gave you any particular problem?

4. Anything else you think I should know?

Thank you ladies! Been having trouble finding anything in searches online or in books.

Re: Anyone deliver with having arthritis in the hips?

  • I do not have arthritis in my hips, but I do have pelvic instability/pelvic pain which may have some similarities. I go from my illia torquing at-will to (right now) a locked up sacro illiac. Normally I wouldn't pipe up with such a difference, but since you haven't had any luck, I thought a sort-of fit might help. Here is what I've learned.

  • It's in the pelvis which would make some things more painful, so some tips on coping with that for delivery would be beneficial I think in my case as well--ive also been dealing with pain so severe that I plan on discussing with my OB this week.

Thank you for the link, I am reading through it :)
