foley bulb after water is broken?

Does anyone know if the foley bulb is an option to kickstart labor if the waters break, but contractions don't start for an extended period of time? I always wondered why this was never suggested to me during my first birth, but my water was broken so perhaps that's the reason? Anyone know?

Re: foley bulb after water is broken?

  • Did quite a bit of research and found my own answer. Most of the time the answer is no due to the increased risk of infection.

  • When I was induced with my first. A foley bulb was put in to make me dilate enough so they could break my water. After that it was removed. The foley bulb only helped me dilate to 4 cm.
