What does it feel like to drop?

FTM here 34w4d and I asked this in another thread but I didn't get a response. How do you know when the baby drops? Can you feel it? I know there is a visible difference but is it gradual or more sudden? I haven't noticed any physical difference in myself, but 2 days ago I started noticing more movement lower in my belly and occasional sharp pains when she kicks me.

Re: What does it feel like to drop?

  • I personally didn't even notice, but the ladies at work kept commenting on how my belly looked different and lower so I asked at my Dr appt last week and sure enough he's nice and low. I haven't felt any different though except for some occasional pressure down there while walking but it's not frequent for me. But everyone's bodies are different and experience it different so it may be completely different for you.

  • For me, painful and have to pee more. Feels like baby is wedged so far down in there that he's gonna pop out every time I sit down, bend over, walk, or go to the washroom lol and so help me, every time he moves, it's like there's something hitting every nerve in my pelvis lol

So for me, the dropping has not been overly pleasant. I hope you have the experience of the pp above me and not feel it lol
  • For me it seems to happen over night. With both my boys I woke up and it seemed like by belly was sagging compared to what it had felt like leading up to the day. I also began to have a lot more pressure down low and most of my big kicks were up in my ribs. Everyone is different though some people never really drop a whole lot and I think if you carry low it would probably be harder to recognize on the outside.
  • The only way I knew with my first was because he finally got his freakin' knees out of my ribs... It was like I woke up one morning and he was in a different place.
I didn't notice with my 2nd (a girl, and I was told they usually rest higher? Wives tale? I don't know.)

With #3, I'm in so much pain... I have to pee more, I feel like he's resting his head on my left hip bone. Walking sucks. I wonder if this is all because he's the 3rd? and so close to my 2nd pregnancy that my uterus is tired and betraying me and not supporting his weight like it should??! He dropped at 34 weeks - I think that's a little early.

  • The first thing I noticed when I dropped was I could actually breath. I was having real trouble with my asthma while the baby was sitting so high and I haven't had to take my puffers since I dropped a few weeks ago but along with that came more trips to the bathroom and the feeling like there is a bowling ball hanging off my stomach ... So I'm really not sure which is better hahha
