Grooming..... Down there

my bump has finally gotten so big that I can no longer groom down south. I don't want to just let it go! Anyone have any tips??? Waxing seems $$$. I see nair hair remover makes a bikini version, but I'm having a hard time finding it in stores (and nervous about using it).

Re: Grooming..... Down there

  • Ive been blindly shaving down there since the bump is in the way. If you're talking you can't reach maybe ask your hubby to lend a hand.

  • I'm not QUITE at this point yet but did realize today that if I don't shave down there soon I won't have another chance haha. I was planning on trying to do it with a mirror when/if I feel the need to later.
  • I also blind shave currently. Last pregnancy I also used a mirror when need be.
  • I stopped razor shaving about a year ago, and started waxing... But now i just use hair clippers with a guard on it so I don't get any ingrown hairs or anything.
(My own set btw lol not my fiance's XD)

  • To those who wax- do you get brazilians? Do they really get... Everything?? Some girls at work have been discussing and we might do a wax "party" (lol) How bad does it hurt?
  • Shave blindly, or ask DH. I've never used nair for a bikini wax but judging from the sheer pain and fifth degree burns regular nair cause I don't think I'd sacrifice my lady parts to find out.

Yup, some salons offer different types- mine does a "Hollywood Brazilian" which means if they see a hair anywhere in that area - it's gone. But you can get others with like a landing strip or something.
And I won't lie - it hurts, but when you go and get it done they know how to reduce the pain and it's over pretty quick- first time will hurt more if you've been shaving and the hair is thicker ...

My only advice- don't try to do it yourself, it hurts way worse
  • If you have a highly Indian area nearby, check pricing at their threading salons. I go to two places that do the full Brazilian. One is $25 and the other is $30. I also like that they use homemade hot wax instead of the purple cold wax.

  • I do brazilians. They get EVERYTHING! Even butt. Totally worth it. Not as painful as you would think.
  • Avoid nair because it can irritate the area & if you can't see to shave safely then you cant apply it safely. Do what you can with a mirror or come to grips with the fact that is area is going to neglected for while once bump gets in the way & baby is born & healing process begins. Shaving leaves tons microscopic cuts on the skin & especially close to delivery you don't want to add to risk of infection. I hear an OB say they don't care; they don't expect it to be pretty during delivery.
  • I've been thinking about doing a waxing, how long do they "typically" last before you'd want to get another one?

  • I stopped shaving regularly because I can't see anything down there. Coincidentally, my hubby signed me up for his plus one in the "dollar a month shave" promotion he is a part of. I think he's trying to tell me something! Hand mirrors ladies. They might help.
  • I only trim to keep it neat but it's been over a month since I could see any small amount of my lady bits. A mirror seems like a great idea. I'm going to try it because my bf doesn't seemed to thrilled about the idea of helping with personal grooming lol
  • I get a Brazilian every 4 weeks and have been for a while. The girl that does it said if I can't reach let her! I totally agree! I don't think it really hurts that bad. Go for it!
  • I'm on the mirror boat. I've found this little trimmer that is essentially a nose hair trimmer, but was marketed for bikini areas. Works alright. I hate razor shaving everything because I itch like an SOB for days when it starts growing back, so trimming works for me, and the mirror has been...better than doing it blind. I have always been interested in waxing though, just afraid, and slightly embarrassed. Perhaps after the baby is born I'll give that a shot!
  • I was paranoid about being nicely groomed with my first-made my hubby shave me regularly right up until I gave birth. Now that I'm having my third I could care less! I just figure the midwife has seen it all before so no point in stressing about it!
  • I have been trying to but it's not as easy anymore. But shaving my legs is pretty tricky as well
  • I just got waxed (Brazilian) for the first time at 26 weeks... I will not lie, it hurt but by the time I got home I was fine. The gal told me that darker thicker hair is more painful, which would be something to consider but to me.... IT WAS WROTH IT

I have them get everything.  It's not that painful, especially if you maintain it.

  • Seeing down there is definitely a distant memory. The garden has not been tended to for like 2 months ... Or more.. Hahaha i was starting to feel embarrassed because before I used to always be shaven but hubby to be says he loves it longer as a change, like really, I tried trimming one day and he said don't you dare ! I wanna see it get longer :P I'm marrying a whacko haha
  • I use a mirror and a man's beard trimmer I bought just for my lady parts. It is great!

  • I got my first bikini wax in the beginning of my second trimester and it was kinda painful! Keep in mind - your area down there is more sensitive so the pain will be worse. However, I went for the second time a week ago and it wasn't nearly as bad at all!! Groupon has great waxing deals for like $20 (depending on your location). I don't think I'll go back to shaving again - it really gets ALL the hair (booty and all) and feels smoother. Don't be disappointed if you get it waxed for the second time and there are a couple hairs (there's three growth patterns and it takes a couple times to get it all gone). Good luck with it!
  • My last baby was an early April one and I was in so much pain my 3rd tri that I totally gave up lol. This time trying to keep up with things so they don't get too out if control just for summer shorts purposes. I couldnt honestly care less what my ob thinks and my hubby doesn't care either way.
  • Update: Tried to get one last shave in while I was still able to sort of see.
Got into some very strange positions.
Bled from somewhere but never figured out where from.
    And peed myself twice.
Thank god I was in the shower lmao.

OMG. LOL. I peed laughing at this. you sound like me this weekend...I got one last good one in also, not sure what for, but I did. Peed on myself, cramped a time or two, also bled, it was quite the production... LOL think i'm done for awhile. I'll get my cankles when I feel like it so I can wear capri's without being judged as a grizzly beast, but other than that.... tough. LOL
  • I cut myself 3 times last week trying to shave! Turned out my lady parts only got half and my legs looked like I was balding. Had to have my hubby check to make sure I got all the spots and turns out of course I hadn't so he very sweetly finished for me! Think I'm going to go for the brazillians until delivery and have my hubby do the legs for me!! Just getting impossible!
  • Speaking of this, has anyone heard anything about them shaving you at the hospital when you go in for delivery? I read it in someone's delivery horror story (she also mentioned an enema!?) And was slightly appalled. Does anyone know if this is common practice??

I believe this is very old fashioned and I don't think most hospitals do either of those things anymore.
  • Yeh my hospital doesn't shave but last time I had a Brazilian two days before I was induced - I was glad I did as I ended up having stitches and couldn't imagine that with hair growing back - ouch
  • If you have a c-section they will shave in the area they will cut.

This is the way they used to do it a long time ago. Not anymore. They don't do enemas (that I know of, they didn't even mention it when I had my son) and I can't imagine them needing to shave anything unless they're doing stitches for some reason (C-section, major tear, etc.).

  • I let my husband do it lol
  • I'm getting sugared! Completely given up on shaving, besides my legs lol I can still reach those. But I live in the Seattle area and "sugaring" has become a lot more popular around here recently. It's like waxing but uses a sugar mixture that exfoliates your skin while it takes out the hair, instead of a wax! It does hurt but it's soooo worth it. And the more often you do it the less hair grows back! The way the woman explained it to me was because scar tissue grows where the hair follicle once was.
  • My husband told me not to stress over it and just let it grow lol so I do but then it's just so hard knowing I'm hairy down there.. I've been just lifting my belly up and kind of being able to see but mostly just guessing. Definitely shaving downward and not up. So far so good!! I don't know what the whole
Area looks like but I feel much better!!!
  • I've been getting waxed every 6-8 weeks since September & I love it. It stung when I had it done the first time, but now it doesn't bother me. I also use a topical numbing cream 30 min before my appointment that my salon sells. It was formulated by a female dr & I think you can buy it online from drugstores. I definitely suggest going somewhere credible that only works with waxing instead of a nail salon that offers it on the side... That's just my opinion. You don't wanna go somewhere yucky.
  • What is the name of the numbing cream?
  • I get Brazilians every 4-6 weeks and have for years. I use Finipil afterwards (cooling, antibacterial cream). Will never ever shave again in my life.
