Help. Severe lower back pain.

I am almost in my 33 week. My lower back is absolutely killing me, I cant stand up straight, & I can hardly walk.

I was very active yesterday. (Organizing baby room, moving heavier things I probably shouldn't have been, took the dogs to the park for a long walk..)

I've been dealing with sciatic pain through most of my second & third trimesters now (mostly on right side) this feels way worse and far more severe. It's not just isolated to one side, it's my entire lower back & pelvis. I thought rest would help it but it seems to be worse everytime I stand up.

Has anyone dealt with this? What can I do to help it. Warm bath? Massage? Rest? Don't rest?
I see my Doctor in 2 days.

Re: Help. Severe lower back pain.

  • I have chronic back issues and swear by my chiropractic care... Especially while pregnant. If you have never been to a chiropracter, I would highly recommend it.

  • Ugh, this same thing happened to me yesterday/last night! I took a warm bath last night and it helped with my sciatica while in the tub, but as soon as I got out it acted up again. I also got my exercise ball out and both sat on it rolling my hips around and kneeling behind it with my knees on the floor and upper body resting on the top. The ball really helped for awhile.

However, I went on to have entire body aches and shivering the entire night. Now my head is killing me along with my neck.
  • I agree with @ksimo6. Your body goes through major changes while pregnant, two of the biggest being posture and alignment. Seek out one that treats pregnant women. Your practitioner may even be able to recommend someone. I also suggest ice on the inflamed area. While heat may relax muscles it aggravates inflammation. Good luck. Hope you feel relief soon.
  • I would look up core exercises/core physical therapy to do during pregnancy. It's not a cure but they really help me.
  • Yes. Scalding hot showers cure my back pain ..... UNTIL I get out... Then it comes right back. There's a lovely baby pressing on it..... I tried the essential oil pain rub lotion and it didn't help. Massage does help but they are so darn expensive!
