Hey all, I'm Jessica. I'm a newbie to this board, and community. I am a few days shy of 27, my DH is a month shy of 30. I got diagnosed last year with PCOS after 4-5 failed months of trying to conceive naturally. No fertility problems run in the family so I didn't think much of it until I saw those lovely cysts all over my ovaries on the ultrasound. Anywho, I've been seeing a fertility specialist and trying to understand if my PCOS is "normal" and wondered if anyone else had similar medications/diet recs. So I was on metformin 750 2x a day, may have actually ovulated on my own but then discovered I make no/to little cervical mucus so we decided on IUI. last cycle I did 5mg of Letrozole days 3-7.. had 6 little follicles day 12. Day 14 only two had grown. By day 18 all had disappeared/shrank. Apparently this can happen with PCOS? So I started pregesterone to start a new cycle and start over. We also realized via OPK and ultrasound that I don't ovulate until day 18ish. (have had good uterine lining changes and a positive LH strip once).
Now on 2000mg of metformin daily, to try 10 of Letrozole days 3-7, and IUI (DH is 100% checked out) hopefully if I can produce at least one decent follicle. My doctor preaches a low glycemic index diet? Low to no carbs, and no added sugar. I understand the idea behind it as it relates to insulin resistance (I'm also a nurse), but just struggling to find meal ideas that work with that diet. Is anyone else on the cardboard diet? I'm hoping to find some fellow PCOS individuals who can give me some insight/community. Thanks!
I have PCOS. I am a root cause person so I treat it from a more holistic angle with supplements b/c I didn't like the conventional route (been there, done that, wasn't for me). I've had 3 pregnancies, 2 successful to term & the supps bring on a textbook cycle for me.
I am also paleo though so I wanted to mention that paleo recipes would fit the bill for the type of eating that your dr is recommending. Here are some of my favorite recipe blogs:
Thanks so much for the websites, I've heard some about paleo but I'll definjtely dig into it and try it out! I actually was just thinking about how many doggone meds im on and do believe in alternative medicine. Might be worth a try!
I also have PCOS and according to my RE I am somewhat atypical. I have elevated testosterone and regular cycles where I ovulate on my own. We've been trying for 17 cycles with zero luck. The whole low carb/no sugar thing is hard to start but I believe is worth it. I lost 75lbs going paleo as was mentioned above.
Since the weight loss and ovulating on my own hasn't worked for us, we've upped my Metformin to 1700mg (was on 500mg) and will be trying 5mg of Letrozole days 3-7 of my next cycle.
Here's hoping you find something that works for you
