i had my anomoly scan at 21 +1 weeks last week and the sonagrapher was a trainee. We said we wanted to know the gender. She said to us that she would have a check over the baby and then have another more experienced sonagrapher check again to confirm the gender before she said what she thought. Anyways, the more experienced tech came in and had a quick look but when she looked, the baby's legs were tightly crossed so she was struggling to get a clear view. Baby must have moved a bit to where she said she got a glimpse of the testicles, but I couldn't see a penis. She got a side view of baby and said "look there's his penis" and the trainee said she also thought a boy.
I've got 1 boy already and with his 20 week scan, it was unmistakable that he was a boy. Very clear. I didn't feel like it was that clear this time, and I thought it was unusual how she got a "side view" of the penis when it could have very well been the cord. Can you usually see boys bits from a side view? All the while my gut has been saying its a girl this whole time as I have been carrying completely different than my first! I just took their word for it as I assume they know what they're looking at, but I can't help shake the feeling that they could be wrong. Has anyone been told boy and put came a girl? I've got a grow scan at 34 weeks so I can ask them to confirm then but it's a whole 12 weeks away which feels like torture! Anyone else been in a similar situation??!
Re: 20 Week scan and unsure of Gender!
I would be happy either way, but I won't be going out buying loads of blue things because I have my doubts. The scan was really unclear.
I'm asking if anyone has been in the situation where they've been told they're having one gender only to come out with the other?
No one, not even the pros, can tell you the sex from an U/S at 6-8 weeks.
I don't know anyone personally who has been told the wrong gender at their ultrasound, but my sister in law knows two girls who got told the wrong gender, and my father in law yesterday said "I know so and so was told she was having a boy and she just gave birth to a girl" I do think it's rare, but quite possible. The sonagrapher is probably right, but considering the position of the baby, there is a shred of doubt there. Well there's only one way to find out, and I'll be buying neutral things until then!
