Anyone moved while pregnant? Tips?

We have gotten to be old pros at moving with a newborn since we have done that twice, but it looks like we will be moving this summer while I am still pregnant.  Of course I will need to find a new OB and will have to be careful with lifting and packing not to overdo it, but I was wondering if anyone had tips or suggestions.

Re: Anyone moved while pregnant? Tips?

  • I just moved last week. I promised myself years ago I would never move while pregnant or with an infant and when we put in the offer I wasn't any of these things. But then Bam! We ended up moving around the end of trimester 1. It is terrible. I had no energy to pack and unpack. I really got stressed out. I still am. The new place is a mess. Also if you renovate make sure to notify workers about baby because some materials can be toxic. I was exposed to toxic fumes because no one bothered to tell me they started applying it and when I smelled it I ran outside.

Knowing I was about to move I picked an OB in my new neighborhood since my regular Dr stopped practicing OB.

Listen, it's hard but you get through it.

  • I did it in my first tri. I let everyone do the heavy lifting and kept my toddler company

  • I, too, am moving, but just within the same town. It sucks b/c the father is out of the state right now (and we don't live together) so that's one less go-to male to lift all the things, haha! I need to clean, organize, and conosolidate my belongings as the new place is muchhhhh smaller, but I've barely regained any energy (i'm 14 weeks 5 days), and just can't make myself do anything. Thank god my sister loves doing the whole organizing crap so I have a little help!  ^:)^

  • I moved in my first trimester and just made sure I didn't over do it. We moved to an upstairs apartment and I just let the men handle the heavy lifting.
  • I moved during my last pregnancy. Same town. I did all the packing and the hubs and his friends did all the lifting while I "supervised" lol I started it slowly over time since we knew for a but that we were moving and then it wasn't so bad.
  • I moved around 7-8 months with my first two kids. I helped pack but we recruited friends as the movers.
  • I moved 2 weeks ago at 11 weeks and i was so nauseous i spent most of the weeks/days puking and in bed. Poor DH did the packing mostly, the day of I just drove the car back and forth to drop boxes off but didn't physically touch anything (we also had my entire family helping) the most help you can get the better. We had 6 people helping
  • I moved in the 1st trimester. Actually bought a house by myself so to say it was stressful is an understatement. I overdid it and felt awful for a week. Remember not to move heavy things, it can cause spotting. The packing part wasn't too bad, just label the boxes. If you catch yourself feeling tired, stop and take a break.
  • lol we just bought a house and will be moving when I'm 3rd tri. I don't plan on doing much, maybe just packing my husband, our families, and friends will do eveything else

  • My husband and bought a house and than we found out I was pregnant. We had work done at the house and that took forever. I was in my last trimester when the house was finished. Be careful because I was trying to help move stuff and going up and down the stairs with small boxes or bags. Due to the stress, and over doing it, I went into labor 3 weeks before my due date. My advice is if the people around you want to help let them, you can help by sitting down and packing things. Dont stress, things will get done. Good luck!
  • I will be 12 weeks next weekend and moving! I have been packing all the boxes. My advice? Two words: hire movers. Last time we moved I wasn't pregnant and was hurt for weeks after all the heavy lifting. So this time around my husband and I are saving the pain. Movers cost anywhere from $70-$200/hour. Our move into a 3 bedroom house was estimated to be a 3-4 hour move. So total cost around $400-500. Totally worth it IMO. Good luck! Also, I was told you can carry as much weight as you're comfortable with (I chose about 15lbs) and it's safe to paint. Best wishes on the new house and baby!

I'm pretty stressed about that, my boyfriend and I have been living in a studio apartment. We also need to get a new car because ours is just falling apart. I've found an ideal apartment, one that is safe enough for a little baby. But I'm already a few days shy of 18 weeks, my boyfriend wants to wait till we get the car before getting the apartment. But because of a DWI last year, he has to take a class to regain his license. So that's our first priority, which he continues to procrastinate.

My fear and anxiety is that we won't have the apartment in time.

But stress makes unnecessary problems. Don't let things drag you down, you're not alone.

I would try to ask family members help move big things, that's my plan.
  • 20 weeks and moving currently. (I'm bumming on the couch watching the movers move due to their policy of someone being present.) All I need to do is clean which I've been tackling one room at a time for the last 2 weeks. A friend helped me take apart the washer and dryer. In my 3rd trimester, our stuff will be delivered to our new home, and I will be unpacking and cleaning only.

My tips are MOVERS or bribe some friends with pizza and beer, take a lot of rest, and lots of snacks. When I moved by myself (before pregnancy), the tip is have everything packed so you can move everything in 1 trip (not a gajillion car loads). Also what helps is we went through a ruthless purge and sold/donated things so there is less to move.
