2nd Trimester

First prenatal visit, already 5-6 months along, how do they calculate due date?

Hello everyone, I have recently found out that the couple of winter pound I've gained were because of my latest pregnancy. This will be my second child. I went to get a pregnancy confirmation test yesterday, as per doctors request, and my belly was measuring 28 weeks. I know fundal measurement isn't 100% accurate. At this point I have been feeling the baby kick for about 4 weeks, tomorrow is my first obgyn appointment and I was wondering if they will do an ultrasound to figure out a due date. I have called the office to ask, but have yet to get a call back. I have not had my period since the last time I got pregnant (April 2013) and my first child was born January 2014, so using the date of my last period as a time frame is not an option. Any input?

  • During the ultrasound they will measure a bunch of things on the baby and that will help them determine a more accurate due date.

  • I agree about the ultrasound to get a closer due date but I would expect that it can still be off up to 2 weeks either way. Especially this late in the game. My measurements right now are off a little bit. But I do know my edd could be off due to weird periods.
