Pregnancy journaling

Hey ladies! I have been using a pregnancy journal only fill it out every 2-4 weeks premade one for hallmark. I was wondering if anyone else is doing this and what to write at this point...... What will this kid want to hear in 18 years when he reads it ? ( yes were corny and read my husbands baby book this Christmas). I feel like I keep repeating myself ( excited about movement etc) This pregnancy has been so rough I don't want to add too much of that depressing stuff in it! Any suggestions or what your doing helps!!! Thanks.

Re: Pregnancy journaling

  • My SIL got me a super cute one for Christmas. I was being really good about updating it but then things got busy with school and it's been a good 2 months since I've opened it. I have been a lot better about taking weekly pictures and there are places for pictures so I think I'm just going to get those printed, throw them in there, and if I have time to do the updates from here on out I will but if not oh well. My book is doubles as a first year book, too, and I plan to be better about keeping that part updated. I think that will be more of interest to her in the future anyway, I can't imagine that she's going to want to read a whole bunch of details about her mom's leaky boobs lol

  • Mine has prompts that say,"things you want to tell baby " etc.... Lol I'm running out of corny things to say. Yes the pictures are a very good idea!
  • I have considered doing this, but have not done it because - zombie mode. I had a hard time filling out the section in the baby memories book about how I felt about being pregnant, and that was like a paragraph only to fill.
But, I guess you could fill the space with what you were kinda doing that day. "I went to the consignment store and got 16 cute onesies for $8 today! Every single I time I picked one up I thought of baby in it and poked the belly like the Pillsbury dough boy!" "I got the wall decals for the nursery today and can't wait to put them up once dad moves his gaming crap out of the nursery!" You could add in your 'boner' of the day stuff, like when I forgot the word refrigerator, and the DH say the darnest things stuff.

I guess I would say what I would try to capture the most is to let your personality shine out, so choose topics that allow that to happen. Something where you don't feel like you are setting down words to carry thru time, but more talking to a friend. I think if I were a newly grown adult reading something like that about my mom, I'd enjoy that glimpse into her as the person she is, the person her friends hung out with, the person my dad fell in love with. A peek behind the curtain of mom, so to speak.

  • It might be fun to write about any of the strange cravings you had!

The baby book I bought has this. It says something like 'mom liked to eat all kinds of foods including'. The book also has stuff in it like the current price of milk, gas, movie ticket, etc. I find that stuff kinda cool.

  • I write about Dr appointments. The fact that she kicks like crazy when she hears her brother's voice. What I'm craving. How I'm feeling. Things I'm excited about. New stuff I bought. Daddy can add stuff too. You can add interesting news too.
  • My mother didn't keep a pregnancy journal, but I've had a lifelong need to prop my feet up on something, always. Occasionally my mother tells me, "You were that way in the womb! Propped your feet on my ribs for three months!" I always get a kick out of this. So you've probably covered it, but habitual baby movement habits. My aunt said my cousin always got hiccups at 1:00 pm, both in the womb and also every day "outside of it" for his first six months.
  • Good ideas everyone!
I also keep little notes on my phone, just because it's normally with me and if there's something I don't want to forget.
Sometimes something DH says, or someone at church/friends.
If you have a baby shower you could write about that. Even things your family does/says/buys about baby coming or pregnancy.
  • I started my own journal & hope to keep at it throughout their life. I saw the idea on Pinterest. I write in it randomly. I wrote in the sono appointments, how we told family, the baby shower, the first day I felt a kick & when DH felt it.
