Implantation bleeding?

Describe your implantation bleeding, how long did it last, how heavy was it??

Re: Implantation bleeding?

  • Most people don't have it. If they do it's usually 7-14 days post ovulation and just spotting. Nothing even remotely as heavy as a period. Usually only a couple of days at most.

  • I had implantation bleeding around 13dpo with my first daughter. It was rusty red/brown not heavy at all, and it was only there when I wiped twice. Sorry if that is TMI. No implantation bleeding this time though!

  • I didn't have any.  I was watching for it thinking I would know for sure that I was pregnant but it never came.  I am 7 wks now.  Got my BFP 3 weeks ago.
  • Didn't have any.
  • I didn't have any with any of my pregnancies.
  • I had it. Actually, I have PCOS and thought it was spotting before my period due to low progesterone. It was brown when I wiped ( not a ton) but also managed to ruin several pairs of underwear as I thought it wouldn't get to that point or needed a pad. ( which I obvi did) lasted for 5-7 days. Never got a period. Didn't think to even test but had a sore nipple! LOL!, Got a dark BFP that said I was 5 plus weeks! So, I guess the implantation bleeding would have been my entire 4th week! :)

  • I didn't have it with my first but this time I spotted very I mean very lightly when I went to the bathroom. It was light pink just a small bit when I wiped then later than night it was darker red and tiny clot very small amount.
  • I didn't have any that I can remember. I hear it's pretty rare.

  • I just finished implantation bleeding this morning. My period was due yesterday so when I saw blood I though that's what it was. Mine was the same color as menstural blood but a lot less. I had some mild cramping and I felt a little nauseous. It for just a little heavier overnight then completely dried up by 10am today.

So, just to be clear, how do you know it's implantation bleeding if you haven't tested positive yet?

OP, I have been pg 3 times and never had IB.
This is my question too. It doesn't make any sense to me.
  • I had IB about 2 weeks before AF was due. When I got up that morning and went to the restroom...when I wiped it was a bright red rust color and when I wiped again it just went away. The next few days about 5 I had some light spotting and then it faded to lighter and lighter til my mucus was again clear. And the spotting after that first day was brown (old blood) which is also another sign. To be perfectly honest I didnt think it was IB and thought I was getting my cycle maybe early due to irregular periods. I took 2 neg. tests then on the 3rd - 7th they were all positive! Def had IB no doubt! Good Luck.

and to the post above...you will not test positive til about a week after you get IB if you have it.

Hmmm, if your spotting was 2 weeks before your period was due that's probably not implantation spotting.  Implantation happens at 7-10 days after ovulation.  And your period comes 10-16 days after your ovulation.  Thus, implantation spotting should happen about 3 days before your expected period.  2 weeks before your period is when you ovulate. So, maybe it was ovulation spotting.

We were actively TTC and I just thought I hasn't happened in 2 years time there's just no way it will happen now. When I went to the restroom around the date of my expected period with my hubby in the bathroom also mind you, as I finished using the restroom and wiped there was some bright red blood that resembled my cycle's start. I usually have a very slow flow the first day-- I would consider it a heavy spotting. I was so depressed that my hubby ran right to the store and got a digital pregnancy test and within about 45 sec to a min it flashed PREGNANT. I couldn't have been happier. That was the only little bit of bleeding I had- there was never any more than that initial little spot on the paper. (Sorry if this is TMI)

  • I had implantation bleeding on the 28th and 29th day of my cycle.  I got up that morning, took a pregnancy test, and got a positive result.  That evening, I had some dark brown spotting, but only when I wiped, never enough to warrant a pad or tampon and nothing like the tidal wave that is my period.  I had it again the next day along with some cramping and then it stopped.  It really freaked me out as I had had a previous miscarriage and thought it was happening again.  But, after those two days, I didn't have anymore cramping and my period never showed up.  I made a doctor's appointment to see what was going on and sweated out the wait until the doctor confirmed I was pregnant and that the spotting had probably been implantation bleeding.  Now I'm seven months pregnant and can't wait to meet my little guy!

I had it about 9dpo and I thought it was some sort of bladder infection or UTI. I thought I was peeing blood. I went to the dr the next morning and I had a negative pregnancy test there and they did a culture. While waiting for the results she gave me an antibiotic, but I didn't take it out of caution. 4 days later I got my BFP.

Your last part is incorrect, I tested positive 4 days after my IB.
  • Implantation bleeding occurred at 6 weeks pregnant. I only needed a panty liner and it only lasted a half an hour. I went to the ED and myHCG levels were spot on and I even got to see our little petit four for the first time via ultrasound. Its little heart was beating and our hearts soared.

No. That couldn't have been implantation bleeding. Implantation occurs when the bundle of developing cells attaches to the uterus. If you were already 6 weeks pregnant then implantation occurred long before then. Sounds like basic spotting.

You know that it's completely safe to take most general use antibiotics while pregnant, right?  i've been on amoxicillin twice since getting pregnant actually (one for a sinus infection and one for strep-b noted at my 12w appointment - which was actually prescribed by my OBGYN).  you don't have to avoid anti-biotics out of caution because you might be pregnant.  it's actually more dangerous for you to allow an infection to reach your baby than it is for the anti-biotic to.
  • And this thread here illustrates how the implantation bleeding myth is so widespread.  Women can spot for any number of reasons, at pretty much any time, yet it's constantly (and often mistakenly) labeled as implantation.

if your IB is on the day of your missed period you can get a positive that day. Some people get it earlier and therefore can't get a positive test for a few days later. Everyone is different.

No. That's called spotting. If it was truly implantation bleeding then it would take a couple of days for the hormones to build up in your system to turn a positive HPT. You talk about IB like its so common when it's really not. It's also something you only notice in hindsight.

    THIS. So much this.
  • My first pregnancy that ended in a chemical pregnancy I had a very tiny speck of blood a few days before a very faint positive. Never for the next 2 pregnancies (the second one ended in miscarriage). It's very uncommon to have implantation bleeding. I did however have the cramps.

    All of this.

Light spotting is extremely common throughout the first tri. But IB would only happen at implantation or in the immediate days aftwrward. Implantation happens 6-10 days after ovultaion. So very light spotting on days 6-12 or so after ovulation may be IB. Anything later than that is just spotting.
  • I had bleeding between by 9th and 10th week. I had miscarried a pregnancy several months prior so when I saw the bleeding (which was red and heavy for about 4 or 5 minutes) I immediately thought I was miscarrying again. I rushed to my doctor's office and the ultrasound revealed the baby was fine and heartbeat was 159. This same thing happened 2 additional times during that week. I spoke with my doctor and she indicated that the placenta was implanting and the embryo was turning to the fetus stage. In addition, I have been on progesterone vaginal supplements for many weeks and she said that can sometime cause irritation of the uterus. I go next Wednesday for another appointment and ultrasound and I'm anxious to confirm everything is still ok with the baby.

That's NOT the same thing as implantation bleeding! You're already several weeks pregnant! Omg! Is no one reading the information in this thread??
  • Hi,

I had it at 6 weeks. Light pink.Didn't last long. Contrary to what people are posting my doctor said it is very common. Sometimes it can last a week and look like a period. I ended up getting an ultrasound. Everything was completely normal!

Bleeding in pregnancy is common. Implantation bleeding is not.
People here are talking abou bleeding as an early sign of pregnancy before they test positive. it would occur at the time of implantation, which is 7-10 days past ovulation. 6 weeks is 28 days past implantation.
I also had bleeding in my third pregnancy around 7 weeks. It was not implantation bleeding, it was probably an irritated cervix.

You cannot have IB at 6 weeks pregnant. IB occurs when the egg IMPLANTS, hence the name. If you are already pregnant, the egg is already implanted.

    I just....SCIENCE!

I would get a new doctor. It's impossible to have IB when you're 6 weeks pregnant. Spotting? Sure, but it's not the same thing.

Yes. He is a doctor and I'm not. But tell me this... How exactly did he determine your bleeding was from implantation (which occurred 3 weeks before your bleeding) or from an irritated cervix or just a small hemorrhage? There is no test which will tell you where the blood is coming from. ..,

  • Implantation---> when the fertilized egg lodges itself in the uterine wall and attaches itself to the blood supply, which can cause some very light spotting for a short while. After the egg attaches, it begins releasing HCG into your bloodstream which then starts to show in your urine a few days later... meaning you cannot turn a pregnancy test positive before the egg implants.

If you have already had a positive test and are spotting AFTER, it is not implantation bleeding.
