High-Risk Pregnancy

New to being high risk

Hi ladies, guess I will be joining you. I had my 20week u/s today and my cervix is measuring at 7mm (should be in 40s). The working theory is that my cervix was injured when my son was born 15 months ago. Waiting until 6pm, 8 hours after I last ate, when they can sew it shut. I'm scared. This is my third pregnancy and the first time that I've ever been high risk. I know there's a name for this procedure, but that word is not yet in my vocabulary.

Re: New to being high risk

  • It's a cerclage.  I had one placed at 13 weeks after my sonogram showed my cervix measuring 1.8cm (18mm).  I was totally knocked out, but it was a quick procedure.  I did not have to be put on bed rest after, just couldn't lift my daughter and needed to take it easy for the first week.  Since I had the procedure, my cervix lengthened to 2.5cm.  Everything is looking good so far, but I'm only 29 weeks.  I started progesterone suppositories at 21 weeks to help as well.  They're not sure why I had a short cervix this time around, as my first pregnancy was perfect.  The only thing my Dr. came up with was that my pregnancies were close together.  Good luck!  I'm sure everything will work out :)

  • Thanks for sharing ladies. I had my cerclage last night , and they were able to sew it shit to 1.5cm. Not sure what my restrictions will be, although 2 different nurses and the Dr who did the procedure don't think I'll be back at work next week. I had an epidural and was awake for the whole procedure. Should be discharged today- have to pee after they take out the foley x2
