Re: Weekly check-in: 4/5/15

  • I'll be first. Happy Easter everyone!

    1. 34 weeks, EDD is May 17, baby is the size of a butternut squash

    2. 38

    3. A toddler and a dog

    4. Feeling large, lots of back pain, and BH/contractions. But I can't wait to meet the little squirt and hold him in my arms instead of my belly. :x

    5. I've been going to acupuncture twice a week, which seems to have been helping the back pain a little. Just had a prenatal appointment last week and the little guy looks healthy. He's head down now and hopefully will stay that way. I've been having some contractions (irritable uterus) so I had a cervical check and I was 50% effaced but not dilated at all.  Next appointment in a couple weeks.

QOTW: My favorite probably was and still is The Giving Tree. Of course it was in the first book purchase for DD! Such a great story and message.
    Me: 38, DH: 35

  • 1.  34w 1d, May 15, butternut squash

    2. 36

    3. First child!

    4. Fine, getting more tired but not crushingly so like in the first trimester,

    5. Next appointment is April 13 and then they start every week. I still need to find a pediatrician and get a bunch of stuff. We went to look at strollers today, which was kind of fun.

    I love this QOTW!

As a kid, I loved the Nate the Great books: https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/book/nate-great#cart/cleanup
    and
Nate the Great is a lot of fun, and Nobody's Boy is a fantastic book by any measure. Great for bedtime reading for elementary school aged kids. I look forward to re-reading it with this little one.

Recently, I was leafing through the Diary of a Wimpy Kid - I think I would have enjoyed that as a child and look forward to reading it someday.

Huge.  Tired, because my hip pain will not let me sleep.
    5. Upcoming appointments or milestones? Rants or raves?
Next appointment is tomorrow - they'll be doing an ultrasound, which is awesome, but I'm bummed out because DH can't join me for this one (for good reason, though - he just started a new job after six months unemployment!)

  • 1. How far along are you? What is your EDD? What size is baby?
    28 weeks.  Hello 3rd trimester!
    2. Age at delivery?
    42
    3. Any other children or fur babies?
    Oh yes, a whole lot!
    4. How are you feeling?
    Good.  No real complaints really.
    5. Upcoming appointments or milestones? Rants or raves?
3rd trimester means the start of every 2 week appts.  I don't enjoy that as it makes time go really fast!
Rave:  My children stay home for school.  We generally try to start our summer break May1 and we are right on track for that!  YEAH!!  This month will actually be pretty easy as we finish subjects and take their finals.  So glad when its over.

As a small child I loved "Monster at the End of this book" its Sesame Street's Grover and cute.  As I got older the Ramona books were a fave.  A little older and I loved the "Choose your own Adventure" series.  THen a bit older and i read pretty much all classics
One thing I like to do is every summer I like to read chapter books to my children...like all of them at once. Its something they enjoy.  Sometimes I choose books that have movies made of them and we read the book then have a little movie party when we are done.  Sort of a fun thing!
  • @ewenner ... congrats on your hubby's new job!  That is awesome!  BTW, my three cats (well, two of them, at least) seem a little perplexed with things as well.  We put the bassinet in the bedroom and they were sniffing around and curious.  I was happy none of them tried to jump into it.  I know they will be a little freaked once LO gets here.

@cneiding ... I love, love, love Monster at the End of this Book.  One of my favs of all time!

  • @cneiding  I loved the "choose your own adventure" books too. The books+movie idea sounds like fun.
  • 1. How far along are you? What is your EDD? What size is baby?
26 weeks and two days, July 11, head of lettuce
    2. Age at delivery?
    43
    3. Any other children or fur babies?
Three kitties.  The 21-pounder, Maximus, cannot stop stepping on my belly and boobs.  He loves his momma, I guess.
    4. How are you feeling?
Eh.  Got a leg cramp the other night.  I think it was from all the walking I did in Vegas.  Had to get some bananas.  Starting to feel a little tired again, but that could just be because I have been so busy with my parents visiting.  Am really starting to feel the honey badger moving around a lot, which makes me feel more confident.
    5. Upcoming appointments or milestones? Rants or raves?
    No appointment until April 17.
QOTW: What was your favorite children's book as a child?  Do you have a favorite now for your own children or soon-to-be-here little one?  Share away!   I really liked "Are You My Mother," which I still have somewhere.  My godmother, who was in the Peace Corp, also gave me "Around the World with Ant and Bee," which is my all-time fav.  I still have it, though it got damaged in our basement when I was in a teen, so the cover is missing.  Would love to replace it, but it is SUPER expensive.  As far as new books go, I like Eric Carle.

I honestly don't remember many books from when I was real little. I remember the story of Peter Rabbit. Dr Suess of course. But mostly I remember the tween books - Where the Red Fern Grows, Island of the Blue Dolphins. That's when I got into reading. I'm going to have to re-acquaint myself with kids books

We haven't committed to a name yet, which is getting a little worrisome. And while I have furniture and colors, I don't have a "theme" or "design" picked out for LO's room... which is not really a worry for me but is driving my mom nuts, who then drives me nuts with her questions.:(

QOTW: What was your favorite children's book as a child?  Do you have a favorite now for your own children or soon-to-be-here little one?
I loved books! Clifford, Curious George and later the Ramona books. Can't wait until they all come out at grandma's house to be enjoyed again :)
@marijaa333, I've already read a couple Wimpy Kid books, love them, they are LOL funny. The movies are OK.

  • @mindaa we don't have a name yet either. I can't settle on one that I like enough to go with. I'm hoping for inspiration before the big day. But she may remain nameless until she is born. It's stressing me out!

  • Woo hoo!  That is awesome!  Thank you!  I guess I haven't really looked for the book in about 15 years, and must have only been viewing the first editions.  This is fabulous!  So happy our LO will be able to enjoy it as well!

  • How far along are you? What is your EDD? What size is baby?
15 weeks, Oct 1, an apple!!

    2. Age at delivery? 43

3.Any other children or fur babies?
DS turning 2 in a month! 3 cats..

    4. How are you feeling?
Um HUGE! Other than my big gigantic belly, I'm starting to feel a bit better than 1st trimester, though certain smells can definitely still turn my stomach.

    5. Upcoming appointments or milestones? Rants or raves?
Next appt is in 2 weeks at 17 weeks. I have to tell work this week, it's SO obvious since my belly button is already popped, or it just never unpopped after my last pregnancy. I'm feeling nervous and a little embarrassed I have to admit. I know it's silly, but there are 2 other women that are pregnant at work that are 10+ years younger than me and the women that are my age either are without children by choice or long done having them. I obviously have to tell them, so I'll get it over it!

QOTW: What was your favorite children's book as a child? Do you have a favorite now for your own children or soon-to-be-here little one?
Did they have children's books in the 70's? LOL .. I know I read ALL the time when I was little but I can't for the life of me think of one book title right now! DS will pretty much read anything too, current fav's are i love you stinky face, the goodnight train and goodnight gorilla.
