Trying to Get Pregnant

Clomid Challenge results are in.

Hi everyone.  I saw my RE yesterday. He spent an entire hour with me - great guy. He did not have my Day 10 FSH results yet but based on the Day 3 FSH/Estradiol and Day 10 Estradiol he thought everything looked fine and he would recommend a vasectomy reversal. However, the nurse gave me the Day 10 FSH results today so I'm wondering if that recommendation will change when I see him next.

For reference, I'm 36, DH 33.
Day 3 FSH: 10.9
Day 3 Estradiol: 33
Day 10 FSH: 15
Day 10 Estradiol: 155

Any thoughts on these numbers? It seems kind of borderline from what I've read but the information out there is all over the place it seems.

He did advise that I needed to lose some weight (story of my life!) because it may keep me from ovulating. He will check progesterone next week to confirm ovulation.

In the meantime, I have been diagnosed with a kidney tumor and once the Urologist told me the statistical probability of it being malignant is 80 - 90%, I immediately decided on surgery as soon as possible. I do not want to be pregnant with a ticking time bomb inside of me!

  • Sorry, I don't know anything about those blood tests, but did they check your follies?

2011: Diagnosis and treatment (low sperm count, anastrozole for DH, clomid for me + IUI)
    2012: Baby #1
    2014: Baby #2
October 2015: missed miscarriage #2 at 11 weeks (trisomy 22)

  • Not yet, but he will in the next couple of months. I'm going away for a couple of weeks, then surgery, then he is on vacation so it will be 2 - 3 cycles before we can match up our schedules at the right time of my cycle to check. We are looking at vasectomy reversal in August when my husband is on vacation so we have a little time.

  • I meant to check how your follicles reacted to this round of clomid? Testing in two months won't work for that.

  • @TheBorg7pf9, I know nothing about the use of it actually. In lurking other posts on it I just assumed, since you only have 6 rounds lifetime max, that it was mostly used when TTC. Wrong assumption I guess! Always learning something new.
  • Yes, unfortunately, my husband had a vasectomy a year before we met so we've never been able to TTC. Since vasectomy reversal and IVF are both so expensive, I had some testing done to get an idea if we should do the reversal and try to conceive naturally or should we save the $8k on a reversal and move directly to IVF and have sperm aspiration done (if I have issues on my side). I've done a lot of research and I believe if we do the reversal and pay for 6 IUIs out of pocket, health insurance will kick in and cover a few rounds of IVF until the age of 40. So all around that seems like the best option. In the meantime, I will just keep charting until we can try for real. We actually tried a few times this week just in case a spermy escaped and the clomid made me extra fertile. Wishful thinking!

I just wanted to say I'm sorry about your tumor and send you well wishes that it's not malignant. Also, I'm glad you have a RE that you feel comfortable with. Sounds like y'all have a good short term plan and have considered your long term options.
