Maternity Gowns

Hey ladies!

This question is geared more towards moms who already have LO's..

I'm a FTM and trying to get a handle on whether to buy a maternity hospital gown or use what the hospital provides, what do you actually wear in the hospital once baby is here, etc. It's easy to drop some money on this stuff and I'm really trying to be practical.

Any help/advice would be much appreciated!

I'm a FTM as well but the nurse/instructor at our birthing class advised against spending a lot of money on something to wear to the hospital as it will most likely wind up ruined from bleeding. She said it's totally fine if you want to bring something from home, but nothing you're super attached to

I just wore yoga pants and a t shirt for a few days. I had a c section, so I had to wear their hospital gown until the next morning at least because I still had a cath in.

@celliott72 for the delivery and immediately after I plan to. I may see if I can find some cute inexpensive pajama bottoms and a nursing tank to wear the next day. I definitely plan on wearing something comfy home. My crazy sister tries to wear jeans home and quickly realized that sweat pants were her best friend for a while. I've heard several people recommend bringing a maxi dress to wear home so I'm thinking I might do that, especially since I'm due at the end of June and I know it'll be hot here in Georgia

Last time, (c-section) I wore their hospital gowns for all 5 days. When I walked the halls I wore a robe. I brought yoga pants but didn't want anything right on my stomach. This time around, I'm going to bring some comfy Jammie's that I get at Costco (Carole something brand). I'm also buying myself some cute Gilligan O Malley button down shirt pj sets for when I get home

I'm thinking of hitting up Target for some cute jammies, too! The Gilligan O Malley stuff is super cute and sometimes you can find great deals on the clearance racks. I want to be comfy, but not look like too much of a slob for visitors. Button downs would be easy for nursing or I may even leave them unbuttoned over a nursing tank

The nurses will be checking your bleeding and the swelling of your bottom with each shift (not the swelling for a c-section but still the bleeding) so keep that in mind when considering shorts/pants because you'll have to keep pulling them down. I'd recommend one of those cute sleep shirts that go down to your knees -- easy to unbutton if you're breastfeeding, modest for visitors, and easy to pull up to be checked by the nurses. Just don't get too attached to anything or spend a buttload of money because odds are it'll be ruined by the time you leave!

I wore the hospital gown the first two days after my c-section and then wore some of My ex's pj pants with tshirts. I plan on trying for a VBAC so I bet I end up in a sports bra and nothing else lol. And I'm getting nursing tanks to wear with some cute maternity pj bottoms I already have for the rest our stay.

This. I was happy to have something that could get disgusting with all the things that happen after labor/csection and to be able to take it off and never see it again. While not very cute I honestly didn't care. I always had fresh ones when needed. I also used the hospital robe but this time will probably bring my own

And if I do bring my own pjs, it will only be worn for the last few days. You want to start feeling normal around the 3rd day. Plus, the nurses didn't really check on you as often. I just plan on bringing two pairs of some old ones that I got last year. They are super comfy and lightweight.

I wore the hospital gown the first day and then I wore my own tanks and yoga pants after that.

I am a FTM as well and all my friends have told me wear the hospital gown they give you then take maxi dresses or night gowns for the rest of the stay and for going home.

I can't think of a bigger waste of money than a cute (expensive) gown to deliver in.... You certainly won't care what you are wearing and there is going to be A LOT OF BLOOD!

I labored for a whole in comfy cloths, switched to hospital gown when they did the epi and ended up giving birth naked because I was so damn hot. All modesty went out the window. I wore the hospital gown for the next day because of the nurses and midwives checking on my lady parts. After I showered and felt a little normal I switched to loose yoga pants and bf tank. I brought two light weight robes, which I will do again.

I wore gown they provided during delivery. After I showered I wore a 2pc sleep suit that had buttoned top for breastfeeding. Plus you can wear it to walk around and get the baby ect.

Thank you all so much for your input! I was looking online and getting overwhelmed lol! I'm definitely feeling way more at ease (at least about this ha!)

I was only in the hospital for one night and then left at 11 am the next morning. I wore the mesh panties the hospital provides and the gown/housecoat and brought my own slippers. Even with visitors I could have cared less. I showered and got prettied up (a bit ha!) but felt comfy in the hospital gown and housecoat. The morning of leaving I showered again and then put on maternity pants and a t-shirt. I don't think it's necessary to buy special clothes to birth in or wear after. Invest your money in warm/comfy socks and a comfy sports bra for labor...then during the later stages of labor you may be butt naked and not give a care in the world what you are wearing!

With DD I brought a cute set of pajamas, some jeans to wear home, and a pair of plain black yoga pants just in case. The yoga pants were my best friend and I intended on only bringing those this time (just more.)

You definitely want something stretchy that won't show blood if you accidentally leak through. Bring houseshoes too! I wish I would have the first time and fully intend on it this go around.

Totally, large panel yoga pants are your bestie after a c-section.  I forgot I lived in mine for weeks after due to numbness and healing.

I bought like a long nursing night gown that comes with a robe. It looks super comfy and I wanna wear it to bed now! I'm sure I'll live in it for awhile after the baby girls are born
