I am measuring 3 weeks bigger then what I am susposed to be and I'm having contractions already. Does this mean I will have a short labor? My first was 23 hours and I just don't think I could handle that again!

Re: how long will labor last

  • Not just everyone but every pregnancy is different they say if you try and stay calm it will not make it seem so long also if you try and stay home in a comfortable environment it could go by faster for you. Good luck!

  • It doesn't mean anything other than you should talk to your OB. Contractions this early are not okay.
  • Generally 2nd babies are a little faster but no guarantees!
  • What you are measuring has nothing to do with labor. Having said that 2nd time around may knock some time off of labor, but isn't promised :/
  • My midwife told me the other day that the first time you labor is usually the longest and the second time is usually cut in half. She also said it's all a guessing game.
  • My first was 19 hours. My second was 34. No one can predict this for you.

  • My first was 8 hours. It would be great if this one could be half of the time... ;)
  • My first was 18 hours, my second was 5 and my third was 4.5. What I realized is the first one I was sitting a lot and the baby wasn't able to move down. If you are able, walk and kneel on birthing balls more then sit and try to avoid being connected to IV's, epidurals as long as possible.
  • I would lean towards planning for a marathon, >24h labor and be happy if and when it's less?!
  • I would imagine labour will last as long as it takes to eject the baby (and placenta) from your body. That's just a guess though.
