Third trimester macrobid and anemia

Hi! I was prescribed macrobid after kidney infections and was instructed to continue taking once daily until 6 weeks post partum. I did a lot of research and saw that it is not recommended to take in late pregnancy, especially 37-42 weeks and during labor or while breastfeeding. It said it may cause anemia and blood complications in baby. I contacted my doctor and the said the benefits outweigh the risk. Of course I'll listen to them, but I'm still nervous.

Any second time moms take macrobid late in pregnancy? Did you have a norm delivery, healthy baby and were you able to breastfeed?

Thank you! Just a nervous FTM :)

I took macrobid with 4 out of 5 of my kids through my entire pregnancy and postpartum. I got a kidney infection so bad with my first baby that I was in the hospital for 3 weeks at 32wks prenant. It was awful, painful, and so scary! All of my children are healthy and I've never had anemia or any other complications. Best of luck to you!

  • Oh that's such a relief! I was hospitalized, too and that's why I'm going to keep taking it. I just want to make sure I can still breastfeed and stuff. It's a scary thought to think you may be taking something that could cause harm!
