Double Stroller Help :)

About that time to shop for a double.....

I have the Graco Quattro Tour single which my daughter and I loved...a little heavy but no other issues....so I was looking at the Graco Quattro Tour Duo.

Anyone have it? You like it? Hate it? Why?  Prefer a diff. one??  I think Im going to go with a front and back over a side to side.

  • Check out the Phil & Teds strollers.

  • totally depends on your needs!   are you looking for a stroller to just go shopping and for fairs and whatnot?  jogger?  combo?  are you in a big city or rural area?  what are the must haves? (like a big canopy, two seats, lightweight) How old are your children?

we looked at every double under the sun!  we waited until we knew where we were moving before buying (dh was finishing up his post doc so we knew we were moving and honestly, the hotsling and the bjorn + the single stroller worked fine for a long while).  The side by sides are really wide.  I really liked the baby jogger one... I didn't care for maclaren when I played with it (although it gets really good reviews, it was difficult for me to "figure out" )... I think it was chicco that I heard good things about.   the front to back ones were HUGE!  I saw a woman trying to get out of FAO with a graco tandum double the other day and she looked miserable!  then I'm sitting there with my phil & ted with the doubles seat and I was so grateful to have it.  Now I opted for it b/c it can be single or double, dd doesn't always want to sit but when she does, she needs more than a sit n stand (or joovy caboose, which has great reviews by friends too), I wanted it for walking at parks, to be able to get around manhattan when we go into manhattan, I would have preferred a better canopy situation, but it works fine.

my advice... pick your top three must haves... then go play with them.  as much as doubles cost, I'd highly suggest playing with them before buying. I thought I wanted either the baby jogger city or bumbleride indie twin... but the baby jogger was too wide IMO for around here and the indie twin was bulky when folded and difficult to fold.  I opted for the stroller I thought I'd want least.. funny, huh?

    good luck shopping.

Ditto.  Look at the Phil & Ted's Sports Buggy with the Doubles kit.

  • I've also seen so many positive posts about Phil & Ted's. I was just reading reviews yesterday on babycenter.com about the Grace and every review mentioned how heavy it was. At least one mom said it was impossible to go in and out of stores in. We're in an urban area, so I need something light and easy to maneuver. GL with the search! Thanks for posting, too- I'll start really looking in the spring.

  • Hmmm well I live in South Florida so we drive everywhere, we dont walk....Stroller is for malls, parks, festivals, shopping, beach, etc.

I want 2 recliners, 2 trays, 2 canopies, big basket, as compact as a double can be, for the cheapest amount!  Isnt that what everyone wants...LOL LOL...

Most side by sides dont have trays and they kids are ALWAYS fighting...mine will be 19 mos apart.

$$ is an object (so to speak) so I want the most for my money, I dont need anything fancy....  SO just tell me what to get LOL LMAO

if we had stayed in IL (not big city, but a decent size city), I would have gone with the baby jogger .. I think they do have snap on trays (new to this year maybe?). I would never get the graco tandums I tested while we were there.. they were just so huge.. the huge bus of strollers. I swear it was longer than I am tall (okay, maybe that's an exaggeration, it's it's long).  I do a lot of walking, in malls and at parks.

definitely go play with them.  good luck shopping! hope you find something close to what you want... don't forget to check craigslist too. you may find a normally pricey, gently used stroller for a decent price.

  • I've got the Graco Quattro Duo.  The major issue with it is it's very heavy/bulky.  But it's not so heavy that it's unmanagable.  Like all tandems, it tends to be more difficult to manuever than SBS strollers - but it tends to be easier than SBSs in getting through aisles and tight spaces.

I think it's comfortable stroller for the girls, I like the snack cups (the front seat doesn't have an actual tray - just two cups), the large basket, and the handle bar.  I also get a lot of compliments on how it looks (although that wasn't a huge priority for me).

I think it's a good deal for the money.  It's not the perfect stroller - but it's hard to find the perfect double stroller.  You might look into getting a cheap SBS umbrella stroller as a lightweight stroller when you need it, though.  I personally like my SBS more - it's so light and easy to manuever and great for travel.

  • We are getting the Duo Glider rather than the Quattro Tour Duo because the Glider has trays for both seats, the Tour Duo doesn't.
  • We got the  Bumbleride Indie Twin. It's a side by side and is very narrow and can fit through all doors. Plus it's beautiful, pushes like a dream, has a huge basket, great canopies and you can jog with it. We were all set to get the Phil & Teds but when we tested it out in person, Dh kept kicking the back of it when he pushed it (he's very tall) and the basket was basically useless. Plus, we felt the baby in the back got shafted because of a lack of a sun shade, and our dd was almost too tall for it and she's not even 2 yet. I think if you don't care about storage issues and you have a shorter dh and toddler, the P&T would be great, though.
  • you know, a friend told me she had issues with her dh hitting the back seat of the P&T and he's fairly avg to short... then my hubby is 6'1" and has no problems... probably more a build and stride issue.

doubles are too expensive to just order randomly online... find them in person!
