Big Boy

Right now at 36w 1day he is at 8pounds 8ounces. They say if I go to term he will be approximately 10pounds 8ounces. Go tuesday for another ultrasound and it will make the discussion to induce or schedule a c-section. My first was induced. Scared of outcome either way any advice

Re: Big Boy

  • Ultrasounds are +/- a pound. So he may not be that big.

My baby at 38 + 2weeks was estimated at 8 pounds. When she was born Saturday(39+ 3)she weighed 6 lb 10 ounces so don't be too concerned about size it's just an estimate.
  • Based on how early my LO was they told me to expect him to weigh 2lbs. He was 4lbs 9oz. I've mostly heard ultrasound weight estimates are never right.
  • My doc was estimating about an 8 lb baby, and DD came a week later at 6.6. So take it with a grain of salt.
  • I honestly dont believe the doctor when they give a weight estimate. Said my son was gonna be on the large side of 8 and he was 9.7! So i think its a guesstimate
  • They have always told me my kids would be 7 lbs. I had one that was 6, one that was 7, and one that was 8. So I think the saying that they are accurate +/- a pound seems to hold try for me.
  • Who did the u/s?  the OB or an MFM clinic?  Level 2?

If it was a level 2 - it is probably more accurate (mine were spot on).

I've vaginally delivered an 11 pounder, so your numbers wouldn't scare me - but you and your medical team need to decide what is best for baby and your body.  If you have delivered vaginally before - you could go with a 39w induction and a trial labor to go vaginal.  If a smaller baby was challenging for you, a c/s could be a safer option.

You'll never know for sure how big baby is until he is out...

  • Mine was fairly close... They estimated him to weigh 7 pounds 3 ounces at 37+6 weeks. He was born weighing 7 pounds 9 ounces at 38... They were almost a half pound off. That being said, PPs said, they are usually quite a bit off.
  • My 1st was estimated at 8 lbs, she ended up being 9.2 lbs. And she was a day early! So those are not very accurate!
