mucus plug and cramps

I'm 30 weeks as of today last night I lost my mucus plug been having menstral cramps all day. I took Ty this morning and it helped been drinking water all day to stay hydrated. We'll now my cramps aren't going away with meds and don't know if I should be as worried as I am. I called l&d and all they told me to do is rest and drink water. Only reason I called instead of going in was because the hospital is 1+ hours away. Anyone ever experience this on any pregnancy? I lost my mucus plug with my first and she came 2 weeks later at 37 weeks.any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Re: mucus plug and cramps

  • I would go get checked. The last thing you want is a premie born at home 1+ hours away from the hospital.

  • This sounds more like contractions to me. With my first the early contractions felt like cramps. With an hour+ drive I wouldn't mess around with this. If rather be safe than sorry. They can always check to see if you are dilated and your cervix while there just to make sure you're not in early labor.
  • I too am 30 weeks and I would be getting that checked out at the hospital if I lost my mucus plug AND had cramping. Good luck!! Keep us posted.
  • Yes, seems like you should get checked out sooner rather than later. I think there are more options for stopping/slowing labor the earlier it is, so just in case I'd head in. Sucks that it's Sunday evening! Maybe try calling again and make sure they understand how long it's been going on, that you drank lots of water, etc. Unless it's stopped already, which would be the best!
  • Have the cramps gone away with drinking water, resting, or anything else? If so, you're likely experiencing Braxton Hicks, a stomach flu, or perhaps non-progressing contractions/irritable uterus. However, if the cramps are painful and continuous, I wouldn't mess around-- head to a doctor or hospital. If you really don't feel like it's labor, are there any nearby clinics that can check if you're dilating? Please keep us posted and good luck!

  • Go get checked. Hope everything is OK.
  • The mucus plug doesn't mean much but cramping does. When I get BH I drink a ton of water and wait 30 min. They go away always after 30 min. How long have the cramps been happening? Better safe than sorry I suppose.
