Gluten intolerence

Hi Ladies,

Just before i fell pregnant i was being tested for gluten intolerence - I had all the typical symptoms (bloating, gassy, fatigue etc) i was just reading through some pregnancy articles and read that Gluten Intolerance can lead to high risk pregnancies.
I have been eating gluten again as that sort of took a back seat as soon as i found out I'm pregnant.

Is anyone else celiac or gluten intolerant? Are you going gluten free through pregnancy?

Thanks

  • Sorry I am confused. Is it confirmed that you have a gluten intolerance?

  • I have a gluten intolerance and find that I have a very difficult time staying gluten free at the moment. I'm too nauseated to choose a specific diet of any kind but, I most certainly pay for it! As soon as my nausea subsides, I will be sticking to a paleo diet and exercising again. I know it's good for the baby and myself.. In the meantime, I have stocked up on GF free pasta, bread, ginger ale and, crackers as necessity..
  • I have celiacs and have been on. Gluten free diet for 8 years and will be on one forever. I'm used to it now and can make almost any recipe gluten free.

Sorry i didn't explain myself very well, I have all the symptoms but haven't officially been diagnosed. I was given a referral to go get blood work to test for it (and eat gluten so blood work can pick it up) but found out i was pregnant a few days later and of course the pregnancy became my main focus.

So as it stands i still don't know if i am or not gluten intolerant... Just wondering if i could be potentially harming unborn by eating gluten if i was indeed gluten intolerant?

  • thanks for the clarification @MRSJESSICAX.  I would think the only issue would be if you have Celiac disease.

  • Im a coeliac and diagnosed for 11 years now. On a strict lifelong GF diet. My understanding was that if you are coeliac and eat gluten can potentially lead to higher risk of miscarriage but the main issue was infertility in the first place (due to autoimmune inflammation). I would check with your gastrointerologist. You can still go thru testing while being pregnant. Good luck.
