I know this has come up a million times here but do you ladies have any tricks to make IM shots hurt less? I don't mean the actual shot because I know that sucks but I'm so bruised and sore throughout the day!
I just want to add that this is another thing that sucks so much about IF...I would do anything to have another baby, but going through all of this for a BFN is just so hard. Trying to stay positive!!!
IVF #1, Stimmed for 12 days, ER 8/22/14, 9 retrieved, 7M, 7F!! Freeze all due to fluid in uterus.
FET end of October 2014 cancelled due to fluid in uterus due to possible c-scar defect
Surgery scheduled 12/12/14 to fix possible isthmocele
3/26/15 transferred one 8 cell grade 4 embryo and one 6 cell grade 3 embryo = slow rising betas for 2+ weeks = ectopic MTX shot 4/29/15
Repeat c-scar surgery June 2015
2nd and last IVF cycle August 2015, stimmed for 12 days, 2 egg retrieved, both mature and both fertilized. Transferred both 8-cell embryos on Day 3, beta 9/5/15 = BFFN
I found icing the injection site beforehand helped as well as massaging it after and applying a heating pad to it for a few minutes after helped a ton! Also, it looks crazy, but I do squats immediately after the injection. I feel like if I stimulate the muscle right after the injection it helps me from getting those tight knots in my muscles!
Warm the oil in your bra before injecting, at least 15 minutes, that helps a lot!
I did not ice first,, I found the oil went in better with nothing being cold, but I did walk around rubbing the site for at least 10 minutes after injection. It helps to keep the oil moving so you do not get bumps or knots.
And then heating pad after that.
When injecting yourself have RE or nurse or your DH draw two circles of injection areas, you can find images on various web sites too if you are unsure.
Then here is how I inject my own PIO, if you ever need to do it yourself, once drawn up I half sit half lean on the bathroom counter so I can see the injection site in the mirror.
I twist my body to make sure I can reach.
Holding the syringe a quick dart like motion.
I also keep everything on the bathroom counter including my sharps box.
And a towel to put the needle on once done injecting, if you do not want to try and put it in the sharps box right away, and a gauze pad or alcohol wipe to rub the site with when finished.
There are some great videos on you*tube of people self injecting PIO I watched them and they helped me a lot, it seemed very scary at first, but it is a bit better self injecting since you know it is coming.

@efhoping2010 Great info, thanks! I do my own shots as well! DH passed out the last time he had blood drawn because he is terrified of needles. The nurse drew my circles after ET and I needed those aiming points!
I use progesterone inserts vaginally instead of the IM injection. Maybe that's an option? I know it's different for everyone, and everyone's RE prefers different things.
Re: Can we talk about IM progesterone shots?
