any other mother's with hyperemesis?

Has any other mother's been diagnosed with this? I'm 16 weeks now and am still having a hard time with it. I had the same issue when pregnant with my daughter but was never diagnosed. All the doctors keep telling me the baby is fine but I'm suffering and the anti-nausea medication isn't working again. I haven't gained any weight in fact I lost 4lbs. I'm just curious if any one is having the same problem and wondering if they have figured out a way to handle it.

Re: any other mother's with hyperemesis?

  • I was diagnosed. I've tried 5 different medications, was hospitalized for dehydration, and lost about 12 lbs. I had to go on medical leave at work because I was so sick all the time. I'm 17 weeks now, and slooooowly starting to get a little better. It's literally one day at a time. Staying hydrated is the most important thing. Hang in there...

I was diagnosed--- both pregnancies.... The first time it didn't let up until 17/18 weeks. This time I startedfeeling better 2 weeks ago, but still throw up a few times a week and have strong aversions.

  • I have had it was all 3 pregnancies. I was down 17 lbs, this time. It's brutal and I still need to cook, clean and take car of my kids even though I feel so terrible. I'm 15 weeks and I hope it's going to improve soon.
  • I have it. Even though zofran scares me it works so well for me. I ran out and now I'm sick again. :( but it's not as bad as a few weeks ago. Hope you feel better! Sometimes mints help me. But not often.
  • I have it. FTM diagnosed at 7w2d. Now 15w4d. And I got bronchitis and a double ear infection on top of it. I have been on short term disability for 8 weeks now and it runs out Wednesday. I started out at 105 pounds and dropped to 93.5. IV drips, Zofran, hell. Still now I only weigh 98. But...I have recently started to see improvement. I found that cheap sugar free Popsicles, watermelon, grapes and apple juice kept me alive. And an Ensure if I could tolerate it.
Hang in there, the science suggests weeks 16-20 it should get better.
  • I've been on 3 different meds and they won't try anything else. They won't pull me put of work which is a catch 22 for me. I'm full time and haven't made a full week since right after finding out about the pregnancy. I feel like I'm taking it harder with this pregnancy then I did with my daughter and it wasn't diagnosed with her. I'm happy that I've only lost the 4 lbs unlike the 16 I lost with my daughter but it seems more brutal this time. Or maybe I'm forgetting how bad it was last time being that it was 6 yr ago
  • 2nd pregnancy with it and down 20lbs now.  But that is up 5 from the weekend.  My first positive weight movement since the start.  I haven't beaten it yet.

I had it until 24 weeks with my son and lost a total of 33lbs throughout the pregnancy.  The last trimester I gained 3 lbs.

Find the things that work for you each pregnancy is different.  I noticed that I am doing much better if I have at least 1 glass of lemonade in the morning this time (still sick at least daily though).

With my first pregnancy it was diet Coke.  These babies are not a fan of anything carbonated at all though so that was hard.

Hydration is key though.  Whatever it takes to get those liquids down do it!  Once you are dehydrated it is a slippery slope and hard to recover from.  I spent 2 days in the hospital about 3 weeks ago to get 11 liters of IV fluids and 3 bags of antibiotics and 2 bags of electrolytes and potassium.  I wasn't able to eat solids again until last week.

I will pray for you that you and your little one continue to grow and stay healthy.
  • I was diagnosed and lost 12lbs (10% of my weight) but have gained back some of it now. Started taking diclegis and phenergan but they didn't help much. I began feeling a little better when we added zofran to the mix and A LOT better once I was given reglan on top of it. IVs, Watermelon and grapes helped keep me hydrated. I'm 15 weeks now and am feeling much better, only throwing up a couple times every 3-4 days. The nausea is still there but much more manageable now. Hope you begin feeling better soon!
  • I was diagnosed early on with Hyperemesis. I was vomiting every few hours from weeks 6-13. Was seen in the E.R. numerous times for IV fluids. I was put on Phenegren, Zofran, B6/Unisom at night. I found eating easy foods like the BRAT diet and Gatorade, even though, they came back up at least gave me enough nutrition for baby. I am still on the borderline of keeping hydrated, I have lost 30 LBS thus far and continue. At my last the check-up, the nurse told me she suffered from Hyperemesis, the one thing she recommended is FIJI water. She said that the natural ingredients (Silica, Bicardonates) helped ease digestion and nausea. I have to say, I was wiling to try anything, so I did. I have to agree, FIJI water is the best!!! It really works for me. My stomach seems to be less upset, I have been keeping it down and staying hydrated. My advise, try the FIJI water.
