Baby measuring behind question!

I had my fist US two weeks ago and the baby measured a week behind. I'm a little confused because I know for sure the date of my last period also there was only 2 days we could have made the baby so I know I didn't ovulate early or late. Could it just be a little behind and maybe catch up or is all my charting really off and baby is really a week behind?

I hate it now when people ask how far along I along because I consider myself 12w 3d and measure 11w 3d. .. any advice appreciated!

Re: Baby measuring behind question!

  • I measured a week behind at my first appointment too. I went from 10 weeks to 9 weeks. Even though it's just a week, it feels like an eternity!

Actually, the day you ovulated doesn't necessarily mean the day you conceived. You could have ovulated a few days after you DTD because sperm can stay alive up to 5 days after intercourse.

Also, the date that implantation occurred might affect how far along you're measuring. I measured a week behind what I thought as well, and while I'm quite certain of when my period was and there were two dates when conception was possible (tmi: only two dates that we DTD and he didn't pull out). I'm thinking I might've ovulated late.

Anyway, 1 week "behind" is still within the margin of error and not generally a cause for concern.

  • As long as you are within a week, everything should be fine.

  • I measured almost 3 weeks "behind" with DD, but I know it's because LMP dating doesn't work for me and my uber long cycle. As @MamaOwl15 mentions, your conception date and implantation dates are tougher to pinpoint, so they can affect your EDD. I'd be tempted to stick to telling people the 11w3d date versus the 12 because as you near the end, even saying you're at 40 weeks (and past as most FTMs go per statistics) can be emotionally taxing. That's when you get all of the "baby isn't here yet??" comments that make you want to go ape on people. :)

In the grand scheme of things, 1 week doesn't make a huge difference. They won't even change your EDD at most practices until you're over 2 weeks off from the LMP EDD. In the end, your LO might come at 39 and might come at 42, so one week won't make a huge difference at that point! I hope that helps :)

  • Hmm I got a positive test 9 days after the deed (we only did it twice without protection) so if I ovulated late wouldn't it not have shown up on the test quite yet? Not sure why I'm over analyzing this. Just beint a crazy pregnant woman! Thanks for thr posts ladies
