I'm 25wks with my second and starting to worry about early delivery. I didn't know with my first that I had the condition and delivered at 36wks... I just wanted to know if anyone else has the same thing and how they're second pregnancy went
I am on the family advisory council for my hospitals NICU so I tend to hear all kinds of stories and do a lot of research. Although we unicorns are rare, we can go full term; i just happened to not get there myself. That is why I am waiting the recommended time between pregnancies and next time my doctors will be taking even more preventative measures. My MFM knew I had a UU but I was told the traditional preventative measures are not put into action until you have a history of preterm labor/birth. Frankly I called BS on that and pushed to be put on disability and get weekly P17 (cervix was fine so cerlage was not needed) but my requests were denied. I do feel the lines blur with what is considered "preventative medicine" on this topic but I got the opinion of 6 MFMs and 5 OBs after my son was born and they all said my care was status quo for a 1st pregnancy. My UU got to its max, water broke, progression could not be stopped with mag etc and he was born the next day.
All in all, every pregnancy is different and so is every uterus. My UU might be smaller or more odd shaped than yours. Same with bicornuate etc. One might be very heart shaped, while another is just slightly. Those small tweaks with shapers and sizes could make a babies easier or harder to carry. Just remember, anyone could potential have a concern which leads to a preemie. Also to flip that thought, anyone with a history of preterm birth could potentially get to full term. There is a higher risk (can't recall the %) of having a preemie a second or third time around once you have one, but that is not a guarantee.
If interested, there are 2 Yahoo uterine anomaly groups- UU sisterhood also has a FB group. Additionally, the preemie and nicu boards are very active on FB and provide all types of info. The question of pregnant after preemie, comes up a lot.
FB pages: Preemie support and awareness Preemie Babies 101 Life After NICU NICU PTSD (might not apply as much)
Unicorn here I only have one child who is under one year so I can't comment on a second pregnancy but he was a 29 wker due to my UU maxing capacity. Due to him being a preemie, I was advised to wait 18-24 months so we plan to start trying for #2 in November
Yes I have a heart shaped uterus lol. My first went to 38 weeks and I'm 35 weeks with my second. This has never caused me any issues at all. I would talk to your doc. I have heard that if your fist came early that your second probably will too. Nothing to do with your uterus. Good luck.
How early was your first? Mine was 36, and no one knew I had anything wrong till my membranes ruptured and I had to have a C-section. This pregnancy I have been using progesterone tablets to help prevent pre term birth, here's hoping it works
Jax was born 29 wks exactly and spent 10.5 wks in the NICU. The last 3wks were all due to poor feeding. Traumatic experience but it really teaches you how strong you are and how strong preemies are.
I knew I had a UU prior to getting pregnant. I am hoping when we get pregnant with #2, I get a little further along but in all honesty preemies might be my future. It all depends on how my uterus stretches.
How are you feeling at 35 wks? Since I didn't get there, I am curious how the unicorn is doing
I'm 26 wks now, my first was born at 36 and I didn't know I had a unicorn.. My water broke in Walmart with my dad! I had no symptoms or complications leading up to week 36 delivery... My goal is to make it that far with this one, fingers crossed.. I'll have an ultrasound between week 28-32, so we'll know how little dude is doing then!
Sorry about the mix up. I thought you were 35 now. Wal-Mart must have been a fun place to go into labor haha. I understand the water breaking in odd places. I worked for a television network in Manhattan and we were in the middle of watching a pilot to our new show. I got up because I was unconfortably and unknowingly in back labor and my water broke then and there. In front of all my co-workers.
Well I am sending good vibes and positive thoughts that you get to full term without concerns! Good thing is since your UU stretched once and got to 36 wks, hopefully this time around it will stretch even more. Keep the board posted on your progress
Almost 33 weeks and baby was measured the other day via ultrasound weighing in at 4lbs 11oz... My son was born at 5lbs 6oz, so still hoping to continue being pregnant and maybe have a bigger baby this time!
I have a complete BU and have had 2 successful pregnancies. My first was in the larger horn and I made it to 36 weeks when my water broke, then a year an half later got pregnant with my second in the other smaller horn. I was on weekly P17 shots from 16 weeks to 36 weeks and a RSC at 36 weeks. I know I had a complete BU before getting pregnant the first time do to fertility testing and was followed by HR doctors. The first pregnancy was really very "normal" right up until my water broke early and I labored for over 30 hours and ended up emergency section. My second pregnancy had more complication with early bleeding and irritable uterus and contractions starting around 30 weeks but I made it to the 36 week mark that was my goal.
Both my babies were born perfectly healthy just a bit small. My 1st (DS) was evaluated for a few hours in the NICU because he was born so many hours after my water broke and small, but did fine. DD didn't need any NICU time she was tiny at 5lb 1 oz but very healthy.
I have a heart shaped uterus I don't know what to expect I'm only 11 weeks I've had two miscarriages so I been worried the whole time with this one I'm hoping I make it the whole pregnancy I've had some bleeding but always went to the er and everything has been fine so far but prayers plz
I have a heart shaped uterus as well. Baby is in left horn. I had some bleeding as well but everything was OK. I'm only around 9 weeks along. I see a high risk Dr this month. Praying all goes well! Our First baby...
I have had bleeding a couple times and the baby has been time and still growing the way he/ she is supposed to but I went back and the doctor never talked about my heart shaped uterus so I don't know much about it
Hi all x I too have a bu x I told the team I was told I had it twelve years ago but it was never explained x now am pregnant 8 weeks and waiting to see a consultant who specialises xx
It was just confirmed that I have a septate uterus. Seeing an MFM soon to get a better idea of where to go from here. An ultrasound about 6 weeks showed the possibility of an abnormality, my husband and I are glad to know exactly what we're dealing with. So much better to search the boards on here than to just Google the condition!! Thank you ladies!
