High-Risk Pregnancy

Placenta Previa and Vasa Previa

Hi Everyone,
Sorry if this thread is already going...just jumping on this board today.
Had my 18 weeks US 4 weeks ago and found out I had complete placenta previa and went for my follow up scan yesterday to see if it shifted. Got my results back today and found out it has not shift, and that I also have Vasa Previa which is where the blood vessels are also covering my cervix. So I will 100% be having a c-section around 35-37 weeks.
Had an emotional day about this today - however I am very thankful that my baby girl is happy, healthy and growing well! Also glad for the early detection!
Anyone else experience this?

Re: Placenta Previa and Vasa Previa

  • Hi Amber. I was 28 weeks when we found out I have Vaasa Previa. We found out do to the fact that I started to bleed. Ever since then I've been on strict bed rest. I'm also schedule for a c-section but I'm scared. I had my first born vaginal.

  • I will be 34 weeks tmrw and have a complete previa as well.  I have been hospital twice now this pregnancy for bleeding and now I am at home just taking it easy.  I will be 100% doing a c-section as well which I am so scared of.  I don't have any PAST experience with this but I understand your pain.  Is this your first child?  This is my second child and this pregnancy is COMPLETELY different than my first.  I have a lot of pain with this pregnancy like severe cramping (almost like period cramping or blood clot cramping)  Is this anything that you have experienced with your previa? I just don't know anyone who has a complete previa and the doctors tell me that pain is not a side affect with previa but I don't know why else I would have such severe pain......

Christmasgm - this is my second pregnancy as well and has been completely different!!! I have had bad groin/pelvic pain for about 4.5 months now and my OB said it is normal since it is also part of muscle memory!
I would agree I have had more cramping as well. I have been on modified bed rest at home since 28 weeks (34.5 weeks now). Just got my c-section date for 38 weeks - July 17th!
I have been very fortunate to have no bleeds, OB said if I do then I am admitted until my c-section.
The one thing my hospital has starting at 28 weeks is the previa protocol. So every week since then I have to go to the hospital to give blood so they have the most accurate nlood type (has antibodies or not)...so in case I have an extensive bleed and need a transfusion, they know which blood to get me.
I have one more ultrasound on the 8th to get final placement of baby and placenta.
    When is your c-section?
