Cruise ship while pregnant??

My 30th b day is coming up in July and DH wants to do something special for me...
He knows I have desperately wanted to go on a cruise to the virgin islands. He is wanting to book one this coming week.
I have yet to get a bfp but if I do this cycle or in the next few... I would be pregnant while on the cruise.
Anyone experience this? Does this seem like a dumb idea? I want to say "hell yeah lets go!" and I know that I should not
alter my life according to planning on being pregnant when I am not. I just don't want to hate myself if I am super sick
and miserable on a week long cruise. Especially since it isn't cheap. LOL

That's a tough one. If you conceived this cycle you'd be in 2nd trimester.

Do you naturally get motion sick?

I have never been on a cruise ship. I felt motion sick on a considerably smaller boat going to Catalina Island.
With my last pregnancy I never experienced morning sickness (thank the maker) but I do know that every pregnancy is different and I could possibly be sicker than a dog this time around

If it was me, I'd go for it. Absolutely. Especially if it's something you'd have to wait to do for awhile once you have a baby! If you schedule it at a time that you would be in your second trimester, then there's a good chance the morning sickness would be gone by then. Some do have nausea longer than that (my sis had it all pregnancy with her boys, but only first tri with her girls) but a good portion start feeling better around that time. It would be prime time to go enjoy yourself before your life gets more hectic with a little one!

I vote go for it, but buy trip insurance in case you end up not feeling up to it.

Don't cancel things on the 'what if' if you don't have your bfp by then you'll regret not going and if you do. You'll make due! Second trimester is when you feel the best and would make for a great baby moon! Let your hubby take you. It'll be awesome!

I would have to look into the trip insurance. Not sure what all reasons you can cancel.

Most trip insurance cover cancellations because of "illness". You can also pay a little more to get coverage that lets you cancel for any reason and get all or most of your money back.

I've been on many cruises and women have been pregnant; one was in her third trimester which I personally think is too late to travel. But like someone said, you'd be in your second IF you got pregnant, maybe if you don't conceive by the cruise, you'd be relaxed and even get pregnant on the cruise.. Wouldn't that be a story to tell! So go for it!

Just don't name the baby after the cruise ship (unless the ship has a genuinely pretty name, of course). My fiancé once helped deliver a baby named 'Usnavy'. The parents (non-native speakers of English) had seen it on a ship on their trip to the US and thought it was 'such a lovely name'. They had absolutely no idea that they were naming their kid after the US Navy. :O

But that's very much by-the-by. I'd say looking into trip insurance is a great idea. A cruise to the Virgin Islands sounds amazing for a babymoon.

I think you ladies are right I think I am going to "pull the trigger" and book the cruise. I don't want to regret missing out on such a trip.

I don't think that's weird. DH and I have a boy and girl name that we've loved for years ... we talked about that long before we even knew we were going to get married or have kids we're probably not going with either one now, but we've always had the list!

I'm mostly a lurker right now, as I'm not TTC (yet), but I thought I'd weigh in here because I have some experience with this. During my pregnancy, I took a carnival cruise. I was 21 weeks and had a great time. I'm sure I had all the same concerns as you, but in the end I'm happy that I went. I will say that many cruise lines have their own pregnancy policies, so you may want to do some research before you book. I believe carnival does not recommend pregnant women over 24 weeks along cruise on their cruise lines. I hope this helps and if you do end up going, enjoy all the virgin "foo foo" drinks you can get!

I'll be celebrating my 30th in June too. DH wanted to fly to a island but now we're considering a road trip instead. I've never really heard anything negative about cruising and pregnancy. I would just worry about the motion sickness. I'm sure whatever you choose will be fantastic!

I went on a cruise ship when I was 10 weeks pregnant and then again when baby was 7 months. The sleep was amazing. I just enjoyed the sand, the bed and the lawn chairs. It was amazing.

Already having names isn't odd. Dh and I had names picked out well before TTC b/c it takes us awhile to agree on things and I was terrified if I got a surprise pregnancy our child would be "baby " until he or she was two.

I would go if I were you. Yeah you might get your BFP and be pregnant on the cruise but, that doesn't mean you'll end up having a bad time. However, if you don't go and then end up with a dreaded BFN you'll be kicking yourself for staying home.

Don't forget to look up the cruise ship's restrictions on pregnant women. Most won't allow you to cruise after 24 weeks of pregnancy.

Just as an fyi, I went on a cruise with princess this past January and it was actually in the passenger agreement that if you are pregnant it is not recommended and you assume all risk of anything happens. Having said that, the cruise was awesome and you will have an amazing time!

I just got back from that cruise a week ago - totally awesome islands

Check with your cruise line as many of them won'[t let you on if you're past a certain point in your pregnancy, so if you won't be at whatever that line is (assuming that you're successful this cycle), then I say go for it!  

I was on a Carnival ship so I can only speak to that experience, but I didn't find it an issue w the motion (I'm not pregnant but am prone to motion sickness).  Also, the islands are super close together, so you're not spending a lot of time with the boat in motion anyway.

I do recommend trip insurance just in case something happens and your doc recommends bed rest and you're forced to cancel.
