What toy laptop to get Claire? Does this even exist?

Am I making this up? Are there toy laptops that have games like Dora?  She is obsessed with our computer and was pretending that mh's binder for work was a laptop yesterday, so I suggested to my aunt that she buy Claire a toy laptop for her birthday this weekend.  Is it like a leapfrog thing or something?  Recommendations?  thanks... :)

  • Check toys r us. Ours has a whole section (by the leapfrog stuff) that sells them. I think they're around $50.

  • Yes, my nephew got one for Christmas and DS loved playing with it.  It was orange and started with a V I think.  Sorry I'm not more helpful!

  • We bought DS a VTech laptop for Christmas and he LOVES it!  He kept asking to use our computer, so we decided that it was time for him to get his own.  It has lots of games and keeps him occupied for a long time.  I think it was $30 or somewhere close to that.

  • DD just got a Fisher Price Cool School keyboard for Christmas. It hooks up to a regular computer and comes with some software (but the Dora/Diego, Sesame Street software has to be bought separately. DD really likes it. She can choose to focus on Art, science, math, music, writing, etc and it also has a drawing pad.

You should check it out. I would rather have all of those features in a laptop but I couldn't find one that I liked.

  • We got my DS the laugh and learn "laughtop" for Christmas and he LOVES it...I like that it goes over the alphabet letters and he seems to be picking up on it!
  • DS has the orange/yellow VTech one and I absolutely hate, hate, hate it!  It's soooo noisy (and no real volume control b/c DS can turn it up immediately regardless of what I do to turn it down), and DS is still too young to understand a lot of the activities/games/concepts so he sits and presses random buttons, leading to all sorts of obnoxious noises.

I'm guessing it will be better even 6-8 months from now when he's cognitively able to "get" what to do with it - for now, however, it's hidden :)
