What is your baby sleeping in at first?

Re: What is your baby sleeping in at first?

  • My son slept in the bed with me. I had him on a little cloth changing pad above my pillow so I wouldn't worry about the blankets covering his face. I would slide him down to nurse and then slide him back up. He is 2.5 and still in my bed and I couldn't be happier about it. He sleeps 12 hours every night no problems ever. We have a king size bed so there is plenty of room. Going to see how it goes with baby number 2. If it isn't working with 3 in the bed (me in the middle I would never let a child sleep next to an infant) then my will be 3 year old can transition into the other room with his dad.

  • Younger one slept in a crib in my room for 8 weeks and we moved crib to her nursery afterwards with a monitor. We didn't have to deal with crib and swaddle transition issues later on as settled in 4-5 nights. Baby goes to bed with her baby deedee sleep nest that keeps her cozy and snuggled. We do not use anything in the crib because of the SIDs issues.
  • We are going to use the rock and play again. I put a thick blanket behind the pad so its better for the head development and probably more comfy. I can't find the legs to my old one so I may have to buy a new one but its so worth it.

  • I'm going to use a bassinet, and than a pack and play. I'm ashamed at the amount of money I wasted on my sons crib... He barely used it.
  • We'll probably keep baby in our room a bit longer than usual because our other bedrooms are so far away from ours. We plan to get a pack and play for our room. Space isn't an issue I just think if we went through the effort of putting a full crib on our room we'd never move her out!
  • We used an arms reach mini cosleeper for nighttime sleeping until she went to her crib at about 5 1/2 months. It really helped because I had lifting issues because of my c-section. We bought it new but I got a neutral one and plan to use it for this baby as well. I feel like some items are worth buying new because you can use it for years and still sell it or give to a friend in need when you're done having babies.
  • With dd we had a bassinet in our room, crib in her room and pnp in our living room. She left in all three until she moved into her room full time. Our niece used a crib from day one.

With this baby we plan to use a travel crib in our room and pnp in the beginning. We're still trying to decide whether we want to get a mattress (they make one for more comfort but are still firm enough to be safe) for the pnp. It will depend on how long the baby ends up being in it.
I almost wish the baby could just stay in the pnp instead of moving to the crib. Dd was in a twin before 18 months and the pnp is closer to the ground if this baby is a climber too.
  • Baby will sleep in a cradle next to our bed for the first part of his/her life. We did that with our DD, she slept in that cradle next to our bed for 8 months and it was great. So we will be doing that again. We will try to keep baby in our room for as long as possible to give DD time to be ready to leave the crib (she is only 16 months right now) and transition to a toddler bed before we try to move baby into her room, which they will share.

  • This baby will be sleeping in his/her crib from day 1. I tried with my daughter her sleeping in my room and I didn't sleep so my mom made me put her in her room in her crib and I personally was SO much better off.

  • I also have pretty limited space so we are starting out with a nice bassinet that didnt cost much

  • @VioletandRose I wouldn't buy second hand baby items but if I was going to I'd sanatize them with seventh generation cleaning products they are safe to use around kids also clorox whipes , also depending on what you are cleaning Dr.Bronner's cleaning products are also good ! With plastic items they suggest using clorox to soak them in diluted with water I can't re!ember the proportions but its also safe you rinse the items a few times!

  • Just as a side note, a friend told me to be careful that whatever I put baby in initially, to be sure it is similar to the crib. Meaning, to avoid anything that moves or vibrates. She had an impossible time transitioning baby into crib as it was so use to the rocking/vibration of what she had baby in by her bed. So I'm going with a simple bassinet from pottery barn. No gimmicks, no sound, no movement. Just safe and easy, and high enough so dogs don't bother baby.

Love love love the rock n play. My last 2 slept in it, in our room next to my side of the bed, until almost 5 months...or bed shared if needed. It was so convenient to nurse in the motn and then put back.

Since my youngest won't even be 2 when this one is born it'll definetly be in our room for quite some time. Then when my ds turns 2 (or around then) and baby is about 4-5 months old he/she will move to the crib...at least that's what I'm planning. We also have a pack in play if we'd need to use that.

FWIW I've never had issues switching from rnp to the crib.

  • I had the pack n play on the raised level at the foot of the bed with my daughter and I plan to do the same this time.
