Cold sores when pregnant

how do you treat your cold sores while pregnant?

Re: Cold sores when pregnant

  • Vitamin e tablets, pin prick a pill squeeze some onto finger and rub on cold sore.

  • Is there rules against abriva? Haven't had a cold sore since I got pregnant, but abriva is the best treatment I know of.
  • My dr gave me prescription cream
  • I use abreava and l-lyseine tabs. I also have script for pills that were ok by Dr. I've had them since I was 2 :(. Dr advised me to start taking script daily at 36wks so I don't get any from labor stress as well
  • I've been using polysporin patches to conceal and ice to reduce the swelling. Then apple cider vinegar to dry it out.
  • I've been on prescription Valtrex for 5 years for oral cold sores (fever blisters), they would take up to a month to go away otherwise. Now, as soon as I feel one come on I take a pill and it goes away within 2-3 days and is much less noticeable and painful than when I just did abreva. Valtrex is Category B and both my PCP and midwife said its ok to take during pregnancy but luckily and ironically my hormones must be perfect because I've only needed to take them once.
  • @hcook321 me 2! Thank god! Fingers crossed for a continued painfree pregnancy!
  • I have a script due to the fact I've had them all my life, however I heard it wasn't safe to use. I will definitely call my dr and ask him. I am 20 weeks so hopefully I can take it.
Someone made me a lemon balm, aloe, and beeswax lip balm to put on it, and it's helped wonders. I just do not want to continue to have them
  • I had one too. It sucks! Please someone help us to get rid of this ugly thing bc all I been doing is keeping a lot of lip chap on it but that doesn't heal it right? It's horrible!
  • I had a prescription that my Dr said I can take when pregnant, so your Dr can likely prescribe something.
  • I had cold sores too! Never had one in my life then BOOM pregnant and have had two so far.

I just used OTC cold sore creams. With application as recommended on the label they both got better within the first day and were completely gone within a week. However, the following weeks my lips kept flaking and peeling. Once that was all over, lips back to normal!
