Pregnant after 35

Not refilling my meds

I've been on prescription strength pepcid and prevacid for most of the pregnancy. They both run out this week. I'm not refilling them. Daring, I know. But that's me. Living on the edge.

Re: Not refilling my meds

  • well personally i think you should reconsider that!  If you are already feeling anxious to have your baby and you have expressed feeling miserable with the cold and various other pregnancy things....having killer heartburn or acid reflux will only make you feel more anxious and more miserable!   Yes you might go early...but if you make it to your due date or *gasp* beyond you should do everything you can to keep yourself comfortable!

Thats just my thoughts on the matter...take it or leave it!!
  • I DID put a little more thought into it than the convenience factor. One of the meds has to build up in your system, meaning it also has to washout. Even thought I stopped taking it, it will keep working for awhile. The other can be replaced with a cheaper OTC med for the last few weeks. It's not as strong, but should be adequate if I combine it with Tums. (Plus we already have some around the house)

  • ok good!  Didn't want you to be miserable and regret your decision!  When I was prescribed different meds for reflux during my 5th pregnancy some of them were really expensive!  This was extra annoying as none of them ever ended up working.  OTC, if it will work for you, will probably be a cheaper option!  good luck!
  • BOO. The coughing / vomiting is back. Looks like I'll be refilling my meds tonight.
