Prepping bottles for outings

Hello all. LO is 12 weeks, and we are starting to take more outings now that winter is fading. Sometimes breastfeeding is not convenient, so I have been bringing bottles with pumped breast milk. I know that freshly pumped milk can stay at room temp for 4-6hrs. What do you all do about milk taken from the fridge? I am reluctant to put it in a cooler if I won't have access to a warmer while we are out. Do you think it's safe to put the bottle straight from the fridge into the diaper bag and feed it to LO at room temp 2-3 hours later? Curious what other mommies do! Thanks!!

Re: Prepping bottles for outings

  • That's what I do. If I know he will be eating it within a few hours I put it in the diaper bag. That way it will be closer to room temp when he's ready to eat.

  • I think you're fine. I figure that if its good at room temp 4-6 hours, it's certainly fine that long - or longer - if you're taking it out of the fridge where it's cold at the start of the 4-6 hours.

We also sometimes keep it on an ice pack but then run it under warm water in a bathroom while we're out.

  • Yup should b fine!!
I usually pump fresh milk before an outting but ya what you're doing sounds good. Breast milk has bacteria fighting properties.

  • Another thing you can do is put it in storage bags and run it under hot water to warm it back up
  • I always bring bottles in a small cooler with an ice pack. (It's smaller than a lunchbox and made by similac.) my babe will drink cool milk, so I don't really worry much about warming, but if I have the forethought I get a cup of hot water somewhere to warm it up.
Even formula is good for 1 hr at room temp, so if the milk is fresh, a few hours is no biggie.
