Sciatica

hi all--I have been having major sciatica issues with this pregnancy. I am seeing a chiropractor, doing yoga 2-3 times a week and had prenatal massage. But still a lot of issues. Any suggestions for people who have had success getting some relief? I can barely walk...

Re: Sciatica

  • My Chriopracter helped me tons!! Does heat help....maybe a heating pad?? I did that a few times....good luck!!

  • I can barely walk also! Today marks the two weeks since I was last able to move without pain. I go to the chiropractor 2-3 days a week, rotate between ice and heat, and i do basic stretches. It never gets any better :(
  • I go to the chiropractor weekly and haven't had any issues. Wake up today and BOOM, can't walk. I'll be checking back to see what works for others!
  • Ugh--the worst. I took a long shower today and feel a little better. My Chiro told me to move around and walk a lot but it is of course snowing here today so that is out

I have the same issue. I can barley walk but I have a 1 1/2 year old I have to chase all day! I haven't found a single thing that helps. Stretching and moving around in general makes it worse for me. I plan to try a heating pad.
I had the same issue when pregnant with DS. It lasted about a month. The pain went away as suddenly as it appeared. I hope that happens again...
  • Massage ? My place I go to has a maternity table and she worked on the left gluteal area to help with sciatica. Worth a shot:
  • Be careful with the yoga and certain stretches. I had pretty severe pain in the early second trimester and thought yoga would help but I found that certain exercises and stretches (happy baby pose, and anything that required use of the lower back really) made it worse. It would go from sporadic pain to constant pain the day after doing those things.
  • My yoga instructor is a former midwife and is amazing at making adaptations which I so appreciate. She really understands the pregnant body and how to not over stress it. Body feeling slightly better today but still hurts. About to literally scrub the kitchen floor on my hands and knees and hoping not to regret it!

  • My Dr told me to get a maternity band.. Back brace type thing and if that didn't help she would send me to physical therapy. I got the maternity band at motherhood and it's helped so far
  • I tried the be active brace and so far it seems to be working. Hubby got it at walmart for $14.99. It's a knee brace that activates a pressure point that radiates up the leg/lower back. I go to the chiropractor, massage, heat pad, and physical therapy monthly. I've found rest is the main ingredient to help with the pain overall. I do walk daily and been maintaining, but I have to watch my activity level or I will feel it the next day. Tylenol arthritis was approved by my Doctor and it does help when I can barely walk.
  • i had about 2 weeks of sciatica.. from weeks 25-26.  i was in too much pain to stretch or work out at that time.  I used heating packs, Tylenol. and mild hip-opening stretches.  somehow things shifted back into place and i am pain free right now
  • I had really bad sciatica with my first, but with this one, I haven't had one episode thank God. Working out daily or at least 4x a week I think has helped tremendously
