Message boards are where you go to ask stupid questions and talk about your experiences.

  • For all of you commenting on the nastiness of some posters: I have a hunch they have all been here for a few years and feel they rule the school playground. Some of the few whose accounts didn't get deleted from The Bump during all the recent drama, because they are smart enough to give their opinion and not name call or abuse so they don't get banned. Still doesn't mean they are nice women, but just ignore their opinion if it isn't constructive. We are all entitled to an opinion. Having been a digital producer and online moderator before I have read some of the worst internet trolling around (news media and politics is much worse). Internet trolls try to be witty, but it doesn't always work for them. Just remember we are all blessed to have babies/be pregnant, be alive and healthy, and to have the right to free speech. So chin up :)
  • I'm Aussie so we have different legislation to you Yanks ;) But thanks for reinforcing my point about Internet trolls! I actually have a degree in politics and journalism so I'm confident and educated enough to not let people's petty opinions bother me. Have an awesome day :)

Yeah. Australia does not have explicit freedom of speech in any constitutional or statutory declaration of rights, with the exception of political speech. Still doesn't apply to this forum. So ... civics class fail.

  • I won't fight with you but I will clarify. Australia is a party to 7 core international human rights treaties. The right to freedom of opinion and expression is included under the banner of the International Covenant on CIVIL and Political Rights. I don't have enough arrogance to assume I know it all, so I will leave it at that. My original post was about ignoring those who are not constructive in their criticism. You are just giving my post precedence. I understand some people are just rude, both online and offline. That is why I'm deleting all my bump apps. I have far more sense than to spend this pregnancy arguing with people who have seemingly nothing better to do than call others failures and gang up on others looking for friendship and support. Those are traits I don't find attractive or beautiful. Best of luck to all you mummies! I hope you all have happy and healthy pregnancies. God bless x

Internet trolls = people who don't tell you what you want to hear?

  • Oh jeez! I'm so sorry! Not going to lie, I think I would end up punching one of those techs in the teeth... well, I'd at least do it in my imagination...

There is nothing wrong with wanting to know, there is nothing wrong with not wanting to know, but they could at least give you the courtesy of telling you WHY they can't or won't tell you after you've addressed this issue, the fact that they're blatantly avoiding the topic with you just leads to skepticism and distrust which is the LAST thing you want as a mommy to be. If they can't tell you right now, so be it, but they should at least be communicating with you on the topic rather than keeping you in the dark.

I would just give them a quick call and ask "why." Just so you know and hopefully get some peace of mind.
  • I read somewhere that it is actually a Law in Canada, that you cannot tell the sex that early in case they plan to abort based on gender. My thing is, its wrong. If a woman TRULY wants to abort a baby, its going to happen no matter what laws are in place.
Sadly other women are paying for those mistakes, and its not fair. If they want to know the gender, let them know.
Its a bit crazy, I agree... Personally I would hop over the boarder and pay for an ultrasound.

I paid for ultrasounds at places like StorkVision. I loved them, they were cheap, affordable, did the job, my family enjoyed it. It was a great experience and they give you a gift bag.  You can buy a DVD, or picture CD and printed pictures after the ultrasound. There are tons of places like that. You can see if there are any places around that do gender scans. (Specifically gender scans) and get one!  :)

  • P.s To all the "bumps" out there. STOP BEING NEGATIVE.
    EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT.
    EVERYONE HAS DIFFERENT BELIEFS.
Ranting and judging is no way to speak in a forum where women are free to speak their minds.
    Its called respect..
Now, If I say Prego, so what, its just a word!  Second off, Stop gender bashing... it is the 21st century, where many people get to know the gender of their babies. Yes it is a diagnostic test, (I know I worked in the medical field) BUT it is also something a parent(s) can enjoy. Why do you think they give pictures?!
If they pay for it, let them enjoy it. It is no ones right to say who can and cannot be excited for their bundle of joy.
I think some people one here just want to troll and ruin someones day.

SECOND off, its a law in Canada and I can COMPLETELY understand why shes upset. Some people are eager and excited, who wouldn't be!

This forum is supposed to be for support.  From what I have been reading (which seems to be most of the SAME PEOPLE posting in all the forums)  You are nothing but negative close minded people who need to be a bit more supportive.
You sound like a mother in law.... rant rant rant when YOUR opinion is not always RIGHT.  (Look up definition of Opinion).

RANT over. Now be positive people!!!!!!

  • Why did you two feel the need to bump a thread that has been dead for two weeks?

I know right?! This has been dead forever.
Hi @BlueWaffleSpeshul! Have you joined the group you can't sit with us? You'd love it. Ps you might not recognize my new name but you know me ;)
  • Ok, so I hadn't seen this thread before, but it boggles my mind when peoole feel they have the 'right' to know the sex, or its some sort of right of passage to find out. Up until maybe 20 years ago, NOBODY knew ahead of time. You only had an ultrasound if you were high risk, and they weren't looking at the genitals. You realize what a tiny fraction of time that is in the grand scheme of the history of childbirth and motherhood, right? You know how whiny it makes you sound, right? Hey, my generation - get over yourselves.

Because crazy needs an outlet. Duh.

  • I understand....Its about the way you were treated not that maybe they couldnt see the gender. I dont understand how they could be so insensitive. Here in Maryland all the techs I have seen have been wonderful, very sweet and would point out everything I was seeing on the screen. I guess its different here. That should not be the case though. Try not to let that upset you to much, just let your doctor know.
  • I think anyone posting mean comments should calm down. you are the ones flying off the handle. Stop passing judgement! She is not making a big deal about this you girls are!!!!!
  • Stop posting CATS ARE SHADY if you cant say anything positive!

I think you're being unfair and inhibiting @CatsAreShady's ability to enjoy the site.

    I think you're right @missemmawoodhouse

@lisapiza maybe you should take your own advice. I didn't call for you so don't come for me because I REALLY don't think you're ready for all of that.

I think you should definitely call your doctor. I used to work in a doctors office and (at least in the states) the reports always included the sex of the child even if the parent was not aware of the sex. If the sex was not able to be determined this was specifically noted.
