Restless Legs Anyone?

I seem to have the worst case of restless legs. I can be in bed and I just can't stop kicking my left leg, on the couch and they have to kick it or move it. I had the same thing with my first DD, but this time around it seems much worse. The worst is when it happens when I'm in public and I just tell people leg cramp.
I keep active, and thank goodness they never happen then while working out. anyone else have this symptom of pregnancy?

Yes! I have restless leg even when I'm not pregnant but it's 100 times worse with pregnancy. I wanna just rip my legs off sometimes : (

  • Oh yeah! It's so annoying
  • Yep! So annoying! I do find that doing stretches helps.

It happens to me, but usually just when I need to go to bed.

Yes, just before bed or as I am falling asleep is when it is most frequent.
  • Yes it's horrible!!! I started to walk more before bed and rubbing lotion sometimes helps.
  • I'm starting to have this as well! :(

I've notice it's worse when I'm not putting my feet up throughout the day or if I haven't been to the gym (not that much often happens there, but I do hang out on the elliptical which gets the blood pumpin).

A friend told me the best shot she had at not having it ruin her night's sleep was trying to fall asleep before it kicked in with her feet elevated in bed and her hubby giving her a foot rub! Maybe we should all be asking for foot massages before bed?!
  • My doctor recommended stretching when this happens but it doesn't always work!
  • Nothing works !! I hate it.. I swear it's the worst thing so far... And I had severe morning sickness. :(
  • I have experienced that too. Mostly just at night when I lay down for bed, but it's super annoying because I have to constantly move my legs.
  • I had this incredibly bad from month one to almost 5. I was lucky to get 3 hours of sleep a night and it was usually broken up (8:30-10 and back to sleep around 5 and get up at 6:30 for work). I tried everything. Acupuncture, holistic doctors, iron supplements, magnesium supplement, stretching, massages etc. I even ordered a tens machine but was scared to use it. I felt my doctor was no help. She would shrug it off and say that lots of pregnant women had trouble sleeping. It was very discouraging. Some people ( like my principal) would laugh it off and say that it was preparing me for being up with the baby. I was so frustrated bc you would think people would understand you need all the sleep you can get before the baby comes. I even went and got a sleep study done so that I would have an official diagnosis if I needed to go on disability bc of my lack of sleep. Very warm baths did help a bit. I am constantly anxious that it is going to start back up again since I heard it gets bad in the third trimester.

Anyway sorry for the ranting on but it was a stressful time. I'll be thinking of you and hope something helps you and you can get some sleep!!!
  • It's so annoying, I can't relax on the couch with my husband and If I didn't have a bath tub I don't know what I would do about sleeping! But my mother had it and said it was made worse the drowsy antihistamines like Benadryl so here so to hoping that helps.
  • I had it in my first trimester. I researched essential oil remedies since I had lavender oil on hand and turns out that rubbing it on your calves can make it ease up! Sure enough, about two minutes after I massaged it in, that horrible feeling went away! I used it on my lower back last night with a heating pad and it worked wonders for tension there too!
