Sleeping Tips?

So, my DD (5 weeks old) actually does a good job sleeping at night. She gets about 3-4 hour stretches between feedings. However, in order to achieve that I'm feeding her every 2 hours from 7am to 7pm. I tried making it every 3 hours and the girl was up all night. When I feed her every 2, she nurses for about 5 min then conks out. Is there anything else that has worked for you guys? This 2 hour schedule is getting exhausting!

Re: Sleeping Tips?

  • My only advice would be to make sure she is eating enough to really fill her up- so then she can last longer than two hours ... If she falls asleep while feeding definitely wake her up so
    She can finish

  • Have you tried unlatching her, burping and then putting her on the other breast? My DD does the same thing, although she nurses for about 10 minutes before she falls asleep. I have to unlatch her, give her a good burp, and try the other breast. She usually wakes up and finishes her meal.
  • I try to have her do a bit of cluster feeding in the late afternoon and early evening so she sleeps better at night. I also noticed that if she gets a few good naps in, especially in the late afternoon (3-5 range) she sleeps better and longer at night. Sometimes I also use a pacifier to stretch her to 2.5 hrs between feedings
  • Feed until drowsy. Change diaper to wake her up. Then feed again.
  • At this age, eating every 2 hours does not seem unusual. My DD (4.5 weeks) eats about every 2 hours, but she takes about 20 minutes on each breast. I feel like every time I try to hand her to DH for a bit of a break he is bringing her back in 10 minutes because she is hungry.
