As a final F-you from my body, I've caught a cold. Because hyperemesis gravidarum for 28 weeks, severe heartburn, pregnancy rhinitis, and pregnancy-induced hypertension weren't enough. Now 37 weeks along, and I am downright sick. All I want to do is lie in bed and be left alone to sleep, and cough / sneeze / snot / pee / puke on myself. On the bright side, I could have a newborn keeping me awake through all of this and getting sick from it too. So there's that.

Well NOW I have that awkward "pee or amniotic fluid" thing going on, thanks to all the coughing. I really don't give a rat's rear-end if this is TMI or not. When you're this far along, there is no such thing. So let me set the stage.....
Kegels or not, there is only so much coughing the body can take before those pelvic floor muscles just give up. I hit that stage mid-morning today and broke into my "if my water breaks at work" overnight super-absorbant pad supply. I spent most of the day coughing and peeing. Lovely. Now I'm getting a trickling effect. But I have no effing clue where the fluid is coming from. Dr. Google says to check the smell. You know what? Amniotic fluid mixed with pee, and just straight-up pee, both smell like pee. That's not going to help.
Will I call my doctor? Yes. What will he say? "We won't know unless you come in and get it checked out." Yes, I know. But I don't want to waste my time in L&D and finding childcare for my son to find out I peed my pants. I'm just griping, not really looking for "you should get it checked out" or "wait and see if you get contractions" type of advice.

I woke up in the middle of the night for one of my many bathroom trips but was absolutely drenched in sweat from head to toe. I usually get some night sweats with pregnancy, but not like this. I soaked through my PJs and sheets and had to towel off the rest in the middle of the night. That doesn't happen when I'm sick or running a fever either. The only time I've sweat that much (at night - not counting the gym, or working outdoors in the summer, etc) - was after DS was born. I had to sleep on a towel. It was disgusting, but it was totally from the hormone shift. When I got up this morning, I saw that I'd lost 2lbs since yesterday morning at the same time. HELLO hormone shifts! It's not dehydration causing the weight loss either. I drank a TON of water yesterday.
My theory - Losing fluids like this is totally normal leading up to delivery. Hormones start shifting and the body starts giving up some of the water retention from the last 9 months. Since DS was induced, my body didn't have a chance to do the hormone shift on it's own. After the delivery, all the gross sweating and water loss started. This time, my body has been left to its own devices (so far) and the hormone stuff is starting on its own.

I hope you can get this show on the road soon. Sending a big hug your way.
Hope you improve soon. If your water breaks you will most likely notice something leaking out when you are not coughing etc and not just when you have that exertion going on. It tends to leak more so if you lay down a while and then stand up and it might pool a bit and release when you stand. Most likely, you are fine and just peeing! Ha that sounds funny.
