The quad screen is a screener and not a diagnostic test. There is no such thing as a positive or negative result on a quad screen. All it does is tell you the roughly calculated odds that you might have a certain disorder.
Elevated odds doesn't mean positive, and even with elevated odds, like 1 in 10, you'd still theoretically have a 90% chance that everything is fine.
The only way to get a true positive/negative result is with a diagnostic test like amnio.
Sorry but it drives me crazy when people say they had a "False positive" quad screen. Impossible, since a quad screen cannot be positive or negative. The only possible false positive would be if a diagnostic test like amnio gave a positive result and the baby was then born without a disorder.
Hi there, my quad screen came back at 1 in 9 for Trisomy 18. I had a level II ultrasound done, and no markers were found. I opted to go ahead with the amnio for my own peace of mind. I needed to know one way or another...to either be able to enjoy the rest of my pregnancy, or prepare for a very sick baby. Thankfully, the results came back that our baby girl is 100% normal in regards to chromosomes, and she's looks perfectly healthy and normal. Good luck to you and your little one, you'll be in my thoughts and prayers.
When I was pregnant with my dd it was positive for open neural tube defect. We had a level II ultrasound and an ultrasound every doc visit after just to be safe and everything was fine. She is a very healthy 9 year old.
Thanks for your answers I appreciate them. I was just curious because I didn't have a nuchal translucency because I was switching jobs and missed it because of insurance purposes I ended up having this quad screen test which my current doctor told me she doesn't like it because it's so inaccurate. I did have the panarama test and everything came back normal and it also told me I was having a boy!!
Re: Has anyone had a positive quad screen test? If so what was the outcome?
