Dicelgis (class a) was $230 so I'm on Phenergan (class c) as really needed only. Doc said something is better than nothing if it gets bad.

  • In canada we are preceded diclectin , basically it's just b6 and gravol. Both can be purchased any where but it's cheaper to buy precripition with our health coverage plan!
  • I am and I'm concerned about the Zofran too. The ER doctor put it to me this way, if your baby isn't getting any nutrition it's worse than the mom taking medication to help her eat. I was like you and wasn't able to keep down even liquids and I was even at a point where I was just throwing up my stomach bile. I still have nausea but the medication is helping a lot.
  • My doctor offered nausea medicine for me but I told her no because I've read a lot about birth defects due to them. I'd rather just stay natural and tuff it out
  • I asked my doctor yesterday about the zofran article. He told me he had many patients come in and ask about it because they been taking it and was worried. My doctor said that the FDA will email,mail..etc when they find something disturbing with a medication and he hasn't gotten anything on it, he said not to trust news articles where there is no source? Don't know if this helps but I'm just not gonna take it. Thought I would share.
  • I'm 11 4/7wks. I've had Hyperemesis Gravidarium (severe n/v) with each pregnancy. Helpher.org is a good resource for morning sickness. They also have information regarding Zofran. To my knowledge there has been no proven links to Zofran and heart defects (which is what the case is trying to sue about. The case has not yet gone into litigation per everything I could find on it)
I'm on a Zofran pump 24/7. I get iv fluids round the clock as well. I've not been able to tolerate anything by mouth so I can definitely feel for everyone unable to keep things down.
I've lost 8% of my body weight so far. It's really important to keep tabs on your weight and intake. If you feel the medicines are not working. I'd speak to your doc. Alere has a program to help moms manage the Hyperemesis. They have really made a difference for me. Good luck! :)
  • My doc prescribed 12.5 mg of phenergan I cut them in half so they don't make me sleepy. Works like a charm.
  • ugh! I feel for you all so much! Its been pretty bad for me as well, i started with (and am still taking) diclegis, but it wasnt helping much so my doc prescribed the zofran because she said right now the food wasnt a huge issue (im 10 weeks) the inability to keep down much water was troubling.... i havent taken it because i have read the same stuff as you guys.... but i AM miserable. i feel like i am not even able to think about enjoying this pregnancy let alone do anything. I am super active and havent been able to exercise for lack of nutrients i guess...
    its awful....
i've lost about 7 lbs, which if this ever goes away, i know i will make that back up.... im not skin and bones yet....
just hoping this stops so i dont have to take the zofran...
    :(
  • Well I haven't been taking any medications but a very weird spice pushes the nausea like the snap of my fingers!... Pepper!
Don't get me wrong I don't lick it or sniff it but adding it to my meals makes it bearable and it stays there. :)
  • I am taking 1 phenergan a day. I have to be able to work and function, so this is best for me. Good luck!
  • I'm having the same issues I'm 9wks tomorrow with my first. I actually alternate between the Zofran and the phenergan. I try not to use the Zofran but on days I can't eat or drink I take it. Sometimes I even have to take both (which I try to space by 2hrs even though the pharmacist and my doctor say it fine to combine). My doctor also says I need to take something to keep water down so I don't get dehydrated. I've lost 5lbs and some days I'm so dehydrated I worry if I need to go to the hospital just for iv fluids. I just hope this really ends in the next 4-5 weeks.

I have heard mixed reactions on Zofran. I had a friend take it during her first pregnancy and her daughter was born with heart murmurs. She now refuses it with her second. Another friend took it and had no problems what so ever. I am a first time mom and will be nine weeks friday and refused it on the sage side and now I am going too start Phenergan tomorrow or so too help with my nausea and with it making me very restless as well seeing as how Phenergan is suppose too knock you out haha.
  • I am taking Diclegis as well. The nurse told me it is the safest for the baby. Two at night, one in the am and one in the afternoon. It has worked wonders for me. I had really bad morning sickness 24/7. I'm so much better now. The only drawback for me is it makes me tired but I'll take tired over sick any day!
  • My husband recently had wrist surgery and they prescribed him zofran - his surgeon said that it's something he might want to hang on to because now that his wife is pregnant, he gives out it to her so I figured out was safe to take too.. I had my first prenatal apt. Today and the nurse was super concerned that I had taken in.. She prescribed instead b6 x3 a day and 1/2 of unisom at night
  • I agree Zofran is now shown to potentially cause birth defects Diclegis helps with the nausea but I still don't feel like eating and I have lost 12 pounds in my 11 weeks.
  • I also have severe hypermesis and have lost a lot of weight already (11w5d) and since I have been admitted to the hospital on several occasions already I am on a Zofran pump with 24/7 infusion dose. There is no concrete evidence to support that zofran causes birth defects. Do your research before jumping to the conclusion that the medication is bad for the baby. In my case th e benefit outweighs the risk and it is necessary for me to be able to eat and drink even small portions.
