Breast Pumps: Experience and Preferences

I'm trying to decide which pump is most efficient, comfortable and, convenient. I would love to hear any opinions and experiences

Re: Breast Pumps: Experience and Preferences

  • Loved my Medela Freesyle. Compact enough to just throw in my diaper bag so I didn't have to carry a whole seperate pumping bag. Loved that you can adjust the power/speed as well. I used a rented Ameda hospital grade pump at home and it was AMAZING. I felt like a cow hooked up to it, but it was quite efficient. Definitely something to consider if you can afford.

  • I have bought the medela swing model. Every mom I have spoken to raves about the Medela models but does warn to avoid manual pumps where possible as they are more likely to break down after a few uses.
  • I recommend a double electric
Pump. I had the Medela pump in style and it was good. I really recommend one of those silly looking bras for you to pump hands free.... Not so silly when you can relax for some time during pumping!
  • I have the Medela Freestyle. Loved it!!
  • I'm a FTM but friends and colleagues all recommend Medela pump in style advanced, which my insurance also covers (hooray!) I'm also getting a manual Medela pump for like, emergencies. Cheap, like $30.
  • I'm a FTM, but I went with the Medela Freestyle. Good reviews and compact.
  • I had all 8 of my mom friends tell me I HAD to do Medela... Also- check with your insurance, because mine was fully covered by insurance. Not sure where you are or what your insurance is, but a lot of websites online will tell you what insurance will cover....

That could also help when you are deciding :)

  • I used a rented Ameda hospital grade and the Medela Pump in Style...I really liked the Medela and would use that.
  • I rented a hospital grade Medela to build up my supply. So I stuck with the brand and was able to use some of the same parts. I like the Medela Pump in Style. Although I heard that pumps only last about a year. Does anyone know if that's true?

I'm thinking I might have to get another one for baby #2. I used my pump a lot!
  • Oh and one more thing! Pumping hands free is the best! This is my favorite pumping/nursing bra. https://www.ruminaformoms.com
There's other ones too. I think la Leche league makes them. It's pretty convenient 'cause I could nurse then pump right after.
